Cuomo is in the Franken zone now. No upside for any Dem to defend him.
He won’t resign unless the legislature pushes impeachment hard. They won’t do so unless the public wants it. I think NY voters would be ok with Cuomo saying he doesn’t want to run again.
The report accuses Cuomo of having committed crimes but he hasn’t been charged yet. Will the AG’s office or a local DA charge Cuomo? Would that have a bearing on his decision to stay or go? Probably not unless it’s part of some sort of deal. If he were charged, then NY voters would flip and demand that he resign now.
I think James’ presser today came across as a bit too political. She wants to be Governor, which is fine. She’d probably be a good one. However, if you’re going to accuse the guy of having committed crimes, I think you have to follow up with charges or threaten them and work a deal for his resignation. I don’t think you just hold it up there as a Sword of Damocles. That looks as if you’re setting him up to take himself out while you stroll in and run later. I think this would’ve come off better if AG James had appointed someone else in her office to be the face of the inquiry and have that person give this presser.

Well, let’s see… He’s a narcissist from New York who was born into money and power. I’m guessing he tries to follow the Orange Menace playbook, denies the facts, and calls the whole thing a witch-hunt/fake news. The question is whether Dems will allow him to get away with it and enable him the way the Repubs do in the face of abhorrent behavior.
