Cummings Hits DHS For Blocking Visits, Outlines Claims Of Abhorrent Conditions

A-fucking-men. Ford pardoning Nixon was the original political sin of our lifetimes.

Yup. Because the Republicans would start screaming about political witch hunts if the DOJ started doing anything…

We really need the DOJ, at least the prosecution wing, placed under the Judiciary or something.

Call it what it is- a criminal cover up by elements in the DHS who should be held culpable for their actions.

I feel your pain. I too was disappointed that Obama didn’t go after the war criminals in the previous administration, but it was tempered by the fact that it probably couldn’t be done without starting a civil war. But the problem goes back much further than that. Ford’s pardoning of Nixon essentially set a precedent of putting the President beyond the reach of the law. Had Nixon been prosecuted for his crimes, the wound to America’s political system would have been cauterized. Instead, the path led in the other direction, strengthened by Bush the Elder’s pardoning of the Iran-Contra traitors. Since then, the die has been cast and high ranking government officials are exempt from punishment. Even Trump hesitates to go after HRC, much as he’d like to.

Sadly, the US can no longer tout itself as a nation of laws, and it’s beginning to look like Socrates did indeed die in vain.

For what, exactly? And to think that he wouldn’t in a heartbeat is height of naiveté.

He doesn’t want to be Epstein’d.

Hey, if knowledge of its existence or internal conditions would embarrass the unitary executive, then of course permitting unsupervised visits by oversight personnel to a prison/detention facility is a national security risk!

Elijah Cummings is the conscience of a good, decent, law abiding, inspirational, and united America. Trump and his administration is the antithesis of that.

Does it matter? Benghazi, emails, uranium-1, jaywalking, spitting on the sidewalk, conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline. No different from what Trump’s Ukrainian buddies did to Yulia Tymoshenko.

I don’t doubt that he would if he thought he could get away with it. But I suspect that somewhere in the deep recesses of his lizard brain even Trump realizes that, barring the replacement of the Republic with the Empire, he won’t be president forever and that setting a precedent like that could come back on him in a bigly way. Even if he doesn’t, someone will have explained it to him. I can’t think offhand who that someone might be, but possibly Pompeo. His minions know that they are exposed to the same vulnerability that Trump is if he starts trying to make criminals of the previous administration.

… “hundreds” of detainees were providing up to eight hours of labor in a “voluntary work program” that paid only $1.00-$1.50 per day.

I see we’re taking camp labor tips from the Chinese.

Were did I say “illegals”? I said “migrants”, and the reason for that is that the haters hate them all regardless of legal status.

The man had to sit next to Darrell Issa, Jason Chaffetz, and Trey Gowdy for eight years for Chrissakes. #respect :facepunch:
