COVID-19 Has Show Us 2020 Election Can’t Be The Only Way To Check Trump’s Impulses | Talking Points Memo

Hearings where no Executive Branch witness or document will be produced, despite subpoenas? And Congress will impotently sue in Federal Courts, where it’ll be delay, delay, delay? Sorry, I’ve seen this movie before and I gave it a razzie.

This Administration has perfected the art of unaccountability.

If he were an actual foreign spy, could Trump cause any more harm to our country?

He is a foreign agent, and no. The damage he has done is immense.

Market Pro Tip.
Assuming we do not all end up in mass grave trenches, stock in headstones will soar. Predictably, conservatives will have some comment about “Fake News” on their markers. Progressive’s tombstones probably will say: “I told you I was sick.”

That would require the reporters to go against their corporate mandate.

Not. Bloody. Likely.

Well of course he’s dragging his feet. If the Federal government actually did anything effective to help the populace of the country - it would put the lie to the Republican line “Government Bad. Corporations Good.”

It’s a self-fulfilling strategy. And it’s going to work too.

Oops…@demosthenes59 also posted this tweet…

Another meanwhile then…

Trump plays favorites esp with his new home state…

Florida, a state of 21 million, got all 180,000 N95 masks it wanted.

Oregon, a state of 4 million, only received 40,000 of the 400,000 masks it requested,

and New Jersey, a state of 9 million, got 85,000 of the 2.9 million masks it feels it needs.”

My takeaway from the last 3+ years…
STOP electing into office a RethugniCON…
their bottomless greed exceeds their capacity to be a government official or legislator esp. in a crisis like a pandemic!

Trump bad. Government good.

I agree with the author. We can’t simply ignore Trump’s incompetence, we have to focus on it. Turn the lights on and watch the cockroaches scatter. Keep pounding him and continue to shame his supporters and enablers. Most importantly, vote for a Democrat in November. The GOP needs to go the way of the Whigs.

He showed us the way.

This is exactly what I have been thinking for sometime. Three of the four senators who have apparently tried to personally profit off the coronavirus were Republicans. The lone Democrat is an old time insider. She might not have been a driving force behind her husband’s actions.

It is pretty damn clear Senate Republicans are corrupt to the core. We really need to focus a lot, or maybe most, of our attention on cleaning Congress of the Republican sycophants, scallywags and toadies wasting space in the US senate.

Well, hearing from nurses, doctors, hospital administrators, state officials, and survivors may be worth the price of admission.

The administration and relevant committees knew about the coronavirus threat in December yet they did nothing until it exploded on us in early March. One full quarter wasted. Instead the only action we got out of the administration and Senate Republicans involved finding ways to personally make money off the impending crisis.

Or on this case, the way of the bad toupee.

Which is precisely one of the points the author is making. The GOP senators, representatives, and party operatives support Trump without question, they “continue to pledge cult-like fealty to their leader.” There has been much conjecture about the underlying reason, but at this point that is little more than an interesting academic discussion. The reality is Trump has proven beyond any doubt that he is uniquely unqualified to be president yet the people with the power and authority to depose him refuse to act. So yes, there should be more, as in nearly unanimous, Republican and conservative opposition to Trump. But there isn’t, which leaves the election as the only mechanism to uproot Trump and as many of his obsequious enablers as possible and begin the long task of rebuilding our Constitutional republic.

They cannot be shamed, only exposed for what they are and hope that enough of the country votes Democratic and buries the GOP in the proverbial dustbin of history.

Minutes ago on TV I heard that McConnell wants to give loans to small businesses, but bailouts and tax breaks to Airlines and huge corporations. Nothing to people earning under $40K. Forget the $1200 checks.

Agreed.

The problem here is not just that of a rogue Executive Branch -that alone the system could handle. It’s that all three branches of government have become blatantly political institutions and have been infected by the Republican Party, and the Federalist Society, in the case of the Federal Courts.

If either the legislative or judicial branches were performing their duties with fidelity to the Constitution, we wouldn’t be this far into the ditch. Other than the House, we don’t have an Institution we can trust or rely on.

The U.S. political system is singularly unequipped to deal with a crisis that requires quick action and following the advice of experts. We have been bending away from that model since the 60s, and I don’t see things changing any time in the near future. If the pandemic does get truncated, it will be due to the distance and geography that we have - in other words, we have space that other countries like Italy do not have.

As a country, we have been making very bad decisions for quite awhile now - the weird worship of the 2nd amendment, the creation of an ultra rich class with deepening economic division, Iraq war, Katrina, loosening of financial standards followed by the Great Recession, electing a reality star as our president, the economic destruction of Puerto Rico followed by the actual destruction done by the hurricane. To expect the same group of clowns that brought us all of this to suddenly find their way to making good decisions is, as they say, one of the definitions of insanity.

It is up to the battered children of the abusers to find a way out of this mess. The so-called “smart” money is betting against us and rigging the game as we speak.
