There was cell phone video roughly a week ago of a group of Russian soldiers in the stalled convoy north of Kyiv, where the narrator was bitching that they were out of fuel, hungry, cold, and their officers were trying to force everyone to sign contracts. Now I know what they were talking about.
This thing is such a fucking disaster for Putin.

No. That’s what prisoner exchanges are for. Whatever prisoners the russians are actually taking, and not just summarily executing people who surrender (they’ve already officially announced that that’s their policy on any foreign fighters they capture, and lots of reporting in Ukraine that that’s happening with their folks who are lost).

A number of reports from Russian military funerals suggest that there have been soldiers who died in Ukraine that initially began as conscripts, but subsequently signed a contract before the invasion.

I am still confused about the Polish Mig thingy, I thought the Ukrainian fleet was inoperable, but apparently not, they just not using it.
The “majority” of the Ukrainian air fleet is still “intact and operable,” a senior US defense official told reporters on Wednesday.
“They do have fixed-wing aircraft available to them, still the majority of their fleet is still intact and operable,” the official said, adding that the airspace over Ukraine remains “contested."
The official said the reason the airspace over Ukraine remains “contested” is because Ukraine’s air defense systems “remains viable” and “effective.”

They need the reinforcements to switch from defense to offense, have been limited in ability to get too far forward as they’ve got limited numbers to begin with. If you’ve only got a handful to begin with, you have to be much more selective in where and how you bring it out, because once it’s gone, it’s gone.
More numbers, more ability to take on greater risk levels.

A fork in the road.
So far it’s a fork…the division between GOP-lite and the Trump Wing.
But as time goes on and (especially) the Trump Wing doubles down, the fork turns into two distinct paths, as the latter group requires more and more disinformation, hatred and fervor to maintain the emotion necessary for people not in the least bit knowledgeable of or concerned about foreign affairs or Ukraine in particular to participate in the GOP Game of Shouts.

I didn’t see you had posted that already. I’m devastated. Everyday there is something that makes me cry. At the protest last Sunday there were so many stories told. The Ukrainian Consul for Toronto spoke of his family and others who have been caught up in this horror. The solidarity is strong.
