Who knew trying to overthrow the government would lead to so much trouble?!
…
Or an insurance company, or a lawyer for an insurance company.
Eastman is one of the worst villains in this saga and should go to prison for the rest of his life.
Trump has made a lot of self-defeating moves and has incurred a number of self-inflicted wounds. I think we may look back at his social media posts which commenced almost the day after his DC arraignment as the beginning of his last chapter as a viable political force in the US. The Judge is less likely to be sympathetic to dilatory tactics or anything which creates the perception of a tug of war between her court and Trump’s defense team. The simplest move she can make to put Trump in his place is to move for a quick trial calendar with a trial that takes place this year, 2023. That is Trump’s kryptonite. A quick trial is the best way to protect witnesses, prosecutors, other members of the court and their families. If we were to get a quick trial with a conviction this year or very early during the GOP primary calendar, he’s completely cooked. Already, we’re hearing more noises that the GOP needs a plan b. That Trump ain’t it.
A quick trial with a high likelihood of conviction might be what the GOP base needs to move more in the direction of other candidates, and for Trump to give serious though to cutting deals with prosecutors across the multiple jurisdictions where he is charged, agree to serve jail time in a country club, accepting being barred from ever holding public office again, testifying against other folks and simply moving out of US politics altogether while retaining some ability to get full freedom back in say 3 years. If he ends up a convict, I think people will move from him, even on the GOP side. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner convos among white folks would feel more like the 2006-08 period when the right lost the will to support Bush and Dems earned one of their higher shares among white voters in a presidential race since 1996.
Thanks to Jack Smith, we are getting to that point where we as a nation can jettison Trump from the US political scene forever.
Or a lawyer for a pharmaceutical company.
Eastman might have a hunch that his disbarment might come with a steaming side helping of concise explanations …
What is so repulsive about this swine’s pathetic pleading is that … Chapman - vile asshole that he is - if asked for his position on situation vaguely analogous to this - where a minority person was seeking the delay of an impending punishment - Hell, Chapman would urge for enhanced penalization … just to grind the heel of his shoe on the digits of the person hanging by their fingertips.
Locke him up!

TL:DR - Eastman was winging it and is a dumbass.
Collapses of social movements occur with these types of dynamics
No, I don’t want that piece of crap to get any deals.
Suffer the true measure of his forever inhumanity, and he will be forever clueless as to why things turned out this way.
Then try and convict the rest of his spawn for being the very poisoned fruit of his very poisoned tree, including that blood drenched son in law and his wives.
Then give him a pickax and a pile of rocks.
Judge’s expected response:
I don’t think you have to be a lawyer to defend yourself. I guess you just cannot pay yourself.
Imagine that Eastman was a surgeon with a history of botched & unethical cases and an action to lift his license to practice had worked its way through the system & was about to be made official…
And… then he said I request that our not pull my license - because having had my medical license revoked might adversely effect the big ass malpractice case that I may be facing …
There is NO compelling argument to even try to support his illusion of competency.
Can you postpone this trivial removal of my license because I’m a criminal and have to spend some time in court?
So, the shit is getting real and coming fast? And Eastman is now thinking that a Federal indictment and (/or) conviction is going to bolster his argument that he should keep his law license?
It reminds me of that scene from Justified where the bad guy (former mercenary) is complaining to Raylan that he’s been shot in the back and Raylan suggests “… If you wanted to get shot in the front you should have run toward me.”
The shit is coming down… delaying the disbarment hearing is like putting lipstick on a pig. The law license is going to have marginal utility if you are behind bars for 20 years… were you really thinking you might still practice when you get out?
The choice comes down to two unsavory alternatives. A perfect close to an academic posers professional life.
So dude there’s this street light pole just north of Tijuana specially polished and fitted with a hangmans noose.
If you should choose.
One can hope …
“I need my law license so I can keep plotting a coup and other crimes” isn’t the strong argument Eastman think it is.
Koch and Murdoch are definitely upset with the way their erstwhile mascot has hijacked their political organization, welding their political fate to his (doomed) legal one. TRUMP obviously did that so the Right would have no choice but to help him escape his own troubles.
They want out of that suicide pact, they want their org back, and they want to get back to subverting democracy the slow but reliable way they’ve been doing the last 30 years.
My fear right now is that America won’t be capable of pivoting quickly enough to evaluating whoever the GOP picks once TRUMP is effectively gone. That person will be no less awful than DeSantis, but it takes a lot of time for the electorate to really absorb facts – time we probably will not have. It will be October Surprise 2.0.
Attackers favor attacks that are proven to work, and GOP megadonors would be fools to not have a plan ready to go in case they get their wish and TRUMP vanishes.
Well, you wouldn’t want him to lose his ability to be a fully licensed jailhouse lawyer if he ends up in Club Fed now do you?
