If Ted Bundy or Jim Jones were still alive & could have run, they would have gotten more votes than Mastriano. Which expresses how truly objectionable & charmless Mastriano is - and how numerous obtuse (or simply malicious) segments exist in large populations and will vote for evil.
We always have to remember that even after his complete collapse & censure - Joe McCarthy still had public opinion poll support of something like 20% of the voters of Wisconsin -
A candidate who is pure absolute evil … will still get more than absolute zero votes… often nauseating amounts more.

NM has areas of Trumplicans anywhere near Texas which is oil & gas fields, and curiously Los Alamos County. Los Alamos is one of the most highly educated areas in the country and has been staunchly R in the most highly D part of NM.
NM is a blue state that from time to time gets fed up with the Democratic pols they elect and let the R gang screw around for a term or two. Fat cat Bill Richardson in particular made the Ds skip out at the voting booth.

It is distressing to learn just how many of our fellow 'muricans are stark raving nutcases. One presumes that before Trump, they kept quietly within the confines of their wildass nutty churches, and only preached their insanity to each other.
The current GOP has loosed these nutcases on the rest of us. Our job is to make sure they keep them all safely inside that party of fools and grifters.

Oddly enough I actually knew this guy. In the mid to late 80’s he and his dad had a karate studio in Vista, Ca. My two boys took lessons there for a couple of years. His dad did most of the teaching and he was excellent with the children. He was super positive with my kid with some significant coordination problems (said kid developed some real skills eventually) and always emphasized their responsibility to be kind, etc. Victor wasn’t as experienced a teacher as Dad, but he was a good. I think they had some interesting philosophical beliefs, but they didn’t teach them at the studio and it never came into play. Years later we ran into Victor by chance in Hawaii where he had his own karate studio and he was still the same generous person - and rational. How times change. I’m going with severe mental illness or drugs. He had none of the character traits I associate with con men, and I’ve run into a few of those during my life.
You live in the rural west. Boebert’s district is mostly rural east, aka western Kansas and Nebraska. Even when redistricting put some of Joe Neguse’s constituents in her district (hi, @debg), Cook Political Report still lists CD-4 as R+9.
