Furrowed brow cramp.
This says something about the folks standing around Caesar McCarthy more than it says anything about McCarthy
Just waiting for some Republican senator to proclaim, “I’d lay down my life for my Dear Leader”.
But seriously I think I’ll have to demand that any Republican that votes to acquit must have a psych evaluation because we can’t be sure their PTSD is getting treated. The Dems should bring up some sort legislation dealing with workplace gun violence. Those debates would be killer.
We need to cleanse our nation of these goons. I there’s anything this vomitous week has shown, it’s that they cannot be reasoned with. They are so in thrall to this con man that they don’t even take their own personal safety seriously anymore. Time to purge.
I never thought anyone could have made John Boehner look like wartime Winston Fucking Churchill, but sadly Kevin McCarthy’s childhood was before Tide Pods existed.
PTSD, yes, but they should also be tested for evidence of Stockholm Syndrome.
Either would make their continued service without treatment problematic.
Some are, but most are in thrall to their batshit base and they love their jobs more than their country.
Trump to McCarthy: “The guy who licks my boots every time I look crossways at him.”
McCarthy to Trump: “Oh, yeah. I forgot there for a second, sorry. Now, what is it you would like me to do now?”
lemme get this straight…
Kev snapped at Don because Don defended the insurgents.
Then, Kev defended Don by asking Liz to apologize for voting for impeachment.
Then, Kev defended Liz by letting her keep her leadership post.
Kev must have soft-scrambled eggs for brains.
I see that as a distinction without a difference. Delete Trump and the equation is completely different. Respectfully.
Look, once the GOP votes to acquit Trump, the Democrats should simply refuse to work with them on anything at all as they obviously are no longer a functioning political party who can accomplish anything beyond “owning the libs.”
And any Republican who actually wants to govern can do so by quitting the GOP and joining the Democrats otherwise you’re all shut out for the next two years at least.
If these assholes knew they’d be reelected no matter how they cast their votes less than a dozen Senators would vote to acquit. The facts and evidence are not on their minds. Their voters are.
I understand. But I think that careerism is a potent factor in the rise and tolerance of authoritarianism. If not Trump, it will be Tom Cotton, or Josh Hawley, Jim Jordan, or any number of trumpist heirs.
“McCarthy reportedly pushed back, telling Trump that the attackers were his supporters.”
“…Republican members told CNN that McCarthy “wasn’t shy” about the exchange…”
As much as I believe that Trump made those sociopathic remarks defending the invaders, I don have trouble imagining McCarthy pushing back towards anyone, especially towards Trump.
Recced for soft-scrambled eggs for brains alone!
Really, hard to see it much differently.
But seriously, I think for a lot of goppers they’re scared for their lives. They’re battered wives who can’t see the way clear, they see trumps brownshirts storming the Capital, swarming Michigans capital with military hardware, and they see no way out.
And a lot of them probably hope they lose the next time, because that’s the safest way out. Voting against trump and getting voted out is not a safe road for them, they see it as I-35.
But they shouldn’t worry, coz we’ll protect them, deservedly or not, coz that’s what we do.
“And all yours, too,” he said, looking around the chamber.
In response to McCarthy’s call for help, Trump reportedly said that the people attacking the Capitol were “antifa” — short for anti-fascists — rather than Trump supporters.
If that was Trump’s actual belief, then what exactly was his excuse for not sending in the police and national guard? Wouldn’t Trump have been happy to help if that were true? I mean send in the riot police and clear out those nasty antifa rioters! Right? Or perhaps…
McCarthy reportedly pushed back, telling Trump that the attackers were his supporters.
It was at that point that Trump said that he guessed the attackers were simply more upset about the election than the House minority leader.
Ah ok, Trump supporters. So Trump shifts his footing on the fly. OK so it isn’t antifa, it’s “my people”? So I guess they’re hopping mad then, huh? Way madder than YOU, sport! Still no police or national guard though.
At what point does it become impossible to see Trump as anything but complicit. And if McCarthy et al don’t start pushing for conviction for these very reasons, knowing Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection, then they themselves are complicit, and we need to find a way to take them to task for it.
That’s a very astute observation.
Which, as usual, would be more than a little ironic since they explicitly forced the one vote that declared federal court opinion irrelevant.
Pretty tortie kitty.
