There have always been double standards for Republicans and Democrats, at least maybe since Nixon. Republicans can be massively corrupt and usually mostly get away with it. Democrats should resign and/or be impeached for the slightest whiff of impropriety.
Nor would I. Heâs quite conservative, but heâs also not an ideologue.
Thomas, Gorsuch, Alito, and Kavanaugh are ideologues, and make decisions based on that rigid ideology.
Roberts is actually capable of thought and judgmentâalthough he does seem eager to keep those things to a minimum.
I think Roberts will uphold Obamacare and not strike it down. His whole opinion was that Obamacare can be done, not because of Congressâs power to legislate under the commerce clause, but because Congress was using its taxing power to legislate. The Republicans in 2017 forgot to delete the mandate from the law, they just reduce the mandate penalty to $0. So the mandate and penalty is still there and that is why, ultimately, I think the law will survive SCOTUS review.
Begging your pardon, but what are you basing this on? @ralph_vonholst linked to a study just the other day about the big cases all going for republicans.
The sole big case that everyone seems to use as the metric that heâs not an ideologue, ACA, is the outlier.
Roberts has decided several cases based on facts.
As I said, heâs quite conservative, but not a rigid ideologue.
He does allow for things he may not like.
I think theyâre all full of shit. âstrict constructionistâ shit and âoriginal intentâ shit. They use the Constitution like a religious hustler uses the Bible. They fit âthe wordâ to their purpose and proclaim all is hunky dory!! Our founders have been dead for 250 years and Jesus has been dead for 2000 but they know what they had in mind. Jesus was just fooling when he dissed the mega-rich and our Founders were just joshing when they yakked about life being an inalienable right. They know.
Thatâs the rigid ideologue part right there.
The Fascist Four subscribe to that bullshit because of it.
Roberts is capable of rising above it, although not very often.
But never the âbigâ ones, the handful each year that are the Hobby Lobby or Citizens United ones that are the darlings of the Right. Those, with the sole exception of ACA, heâs been the fifth vote every time.
I do agree that one the ones of less import to the Right, they allow the wiggle room for the Fab 5 to split up and do some actual jurisprudence. More for cover to pretend that theyâre apolitical than anything else, IMHO.
But the record is consistent. When itâs a priority of the Right, they get in line.
Also itâs taking weeks to get an answer on an unemployment claim, much less benefits. At least thatâs what the state is telling my kid.
The morons didnât know that ACA = Obamacare.
Maybe heâll yell for a diaper change instead.
Exactly right. He is simply not capable of learning or adapting his positions, even when it would suit him optically.
Heck, he wonât even do the reding.
Whatever itâs called I canât believe the Federal government thinks they have anything to do with it.
Trump is heading for the wrecking ball and is too stupid to see it. Barr knows what will happen. I am happy Barr gets to anticipate the misery coming Republicans way, thanks to their craven greed and lack of concern for Americans.
Iâm toying with the idea that they should go ahead and nuke OâCare. There is absolutely zero chance that the Feds would not make hospitals and insurance companies whole. Why hospitals already have The Dumpster stating on tape that the Feds would pay for treatment of the uninsured. You think that all those Mega Hospital Corporations and Insurance Companies would allow the REPUGS to swindle them by not paying a debt that was promised during this time. Then once the American people and the HC Industry gets a hold on the Federal tiet they will never let go. The best chance for single payer in the foreseeable future.
True and well said. The GOP got way out over their skis on this one. Some uber RWâers decided to take the ACA out in court when all the RW political class wanted was a convenient whipping post. Oops.
The political force of the private health industry will be heard, felt, and exercised, for sure.
Their companies will find ways to push higher-risk (more expensive) subscribers into the public option pool. Already, more than half of healthcare funding comes from public sources. When will taxpayersâ voices be heard?
The advocates of "original intentâ in interpreting the US Constitution overlook its approval of slavery and its refusal to enfranchise voting for women.
âOriginal intentâ is a farce.
The more rattled he gets by the ads showing on TV the more he unravels. Keep up the pressure and he will be throwing poo at the reporters in no time.
