Clarence Thomas Secretly Participated In Koch Network Donor Events

Above and beyond the unethical behavior of mingling with the people and groups who have matters that appear now and in the future before the Supreme Court is the fact that all the activities these people engage in are calculated to undercut small-d democratic control over our society, our environment, our educational system, undercutting the role of Congress, propagandizing the poorly educated to think everything good is bad, everything bad is good.

Note that women aren’t allowed at Bohemian Grove (except possibly as entertainers). I don’t agree with Bill Maher all that much any more, but one thing he says that I do agree with: when a group of men get together and exclude women, they get up to no good.

Rich vs Poor is a lot more successful when you can get a Poor to have his arse tickled for you in a position of power.

Clarence has to go. That he does not is tanking the whole court. Isn’t it true when a cop is proven corrupt all his previous cases become liable to appeal?

How far/deep do it have to go to prove Citz United is fruit of the poisoned tree - we’ll never know because we’re the poor, eh?

The vast right-wing conspiracy does exist.

Only difference between this corruption and Senator Menendez is the absence of gold bars. At least so far.

Isn’t a Supreme Court justice entitled to hobbies in his off time?

I’m fascinated, in a train-wreck sort of fashion, that the bribers think claims to not have discussed specific cases with the bribee passes the laugh test. When you pass that $50 to the local cop to make a ticket disappear, do you have to say exactly what offense you’re doing it for?

Hindsight is 20/20, but where do you get the X-ray vision? You think nobody at all would have reported on them if they had been in plain view? Neither Mother Jones, nor Texas Observer, nor yet any other tree-shaking publication? How was this in plain sight, then, and to whom?

“ Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ decadeslong friendship with real estate tycoon Harlan Crow and Samuel Alito’s luxury travel with billionaire Paul Singer have raised questions about influence and ethics at the nation’s highest court.”

It is worth noting that those deep personal friendships began AFTER Thomas and Alito were already on the Court, and thus in powerful positions to aid their new best buddies.

Not my best wording, but please understand I support ProPublica and admire them. What I should have said is that the information was available for those willing to dig into boring disclosure forms and other financial documents and ProPublica must be pleased that they keep coming up with new stories each time they sift the info. Even Lithwick has said that reporters on the court have been grossly negligent in reporting only on the decisions and the politics and ignoring all of the ethical violations. ProPublica blew the lid off of this, finally, by making a determined effort to review information that was out there.

Not unlike the Cosby or Feinstein story - info was out there but it took talented and dogged reporters to put it together.

“All of the sitting Justices and many who came before them have contributed to the national dialogue in speeches, book tours, and social gatherings,” the statement added.

If it was supposed to contribute to the national dialogue, why was the visit kept secret?

This is why the court’s recent decision that bribery can only result in a conviction when there are itemized receipts is such a big deal.

But the fact that the Koch and Thomas kept it secret and did not disclose his participation and the “gift” of those trips show clearly that Thomas knew damn well it was wrong.

“The indictment [of Menendez et ux] alleges that Nadine Menendez received a luxury car, gold bars, help with her mortgage, and consultant fees for facilitating meetings between Menendez and Egyptian officials.”

“… facilitating meetings between Menendez and Egyptian officials…”

Translation: Egyptian CIA hired her to recruit Menendez.
