NBC News host Chuck Todd shut down Sen. John Kennedy’s (R-LA) attempt to equate the President Donald Trump’s Ukraine scandal with a conspiracy theory about 2020 candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday.
What you should be asking: “Why is Trump only worried about corruption in the Ukraine? Are you claiming that, purely by coincidence, he picked the one and only country in the world that could generate a scandal for his political rival? Is corruption permitted everywhere else?”
Yup. Though I gotta say, this writeup doesn’t do justice to Todd’s handling of this faux-straight-talker. Didn’t hear the beginning (saw Kennedy and turned down the sound), but I dipped back in to hear Chuck explicitly knocking down the Biden conspiracy-peddling, noting how often it had been debunked and doing some debunking of specifics himself. Then he went and made one or two predictably asinine points; but I was shocked at how solid he was in this interview.
(Not the first time he’s revealed that he actually sees reality, which makes me detest him all the more when he plays the “both sides” bullsht.)
Shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiryagainst Trump, Kennedy (who had told Democrats to “buy a spine” on impeaching Trump in June) responded to the news on “Meet the Press” by bringing up Trump’s baseless accusation that Biden had gotten a Ukrainian prosecutor fired for
Well, wow! It looks like not only did Democrats “buy a spine”, they bought Senator Kennedy’s. He’s certainly behaving like an invertebrate.
Ya mean Todd didn’t fall for that down-home-on-the-farm, folksy bullshitter’s gooberish nonsense that Kennedy usually dishes out in all his interviewed appearances on TV? Well, color me surprised.
You know? I was kind feeling this, too. MSM folk standing on the fence carefully talking both sides and waiting until it’s safe to pick a side without sticking your nose out too far.
Initially most of the MSM went for the Biden stuff like it was a laser pointer to a cat. But they overcame their professional weaknesses enough to realize debunked is debunked. Can’t fool all the people all the time and so forth. Better late than never. Feel free to add other bromides as appropriate.
