mch here.

Not that I ever bothered to look closely at photos of Chuck Edwards, but I was vaguely aware of something a little weird about his hair. This morning, this photo (linked to in today’s The Brief) spoke clearly to me. Quite the comb-over!

Makes me wonder if he prayed for hair, too (it didn’t work).

Apparently, reactionary congresscritters don’t write legislation because they just have to wait for the scandals to come to light to get headlines.

“They,” according to the quick search I just did, are ABC News and NBC News and no one else. Each organization that calls races has its own methods for doing so. Nobody’s lying.

I’m seeing several social media sites crowing about the ‘win’. I don’t know on what authority they’re making these statements. And the two news organizations that are calling it are going to be seriously embarrassed when the recount effort begins.

And we wonder why the MSM is accused of fake news.

I came upon the Maine Dem Party’s official web site today. Some smart cookies there. They put up this statement yesterday:

MDP Statement on Susan Collins’ Decision on Todd Blanche Nomination

  • August 4, 2026

Augusta, ME – In response to Susan Collins announcing her opposition to Todd Blanche’s confirmation, Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Misha Linnehan released the following statement:

“Once again, Susan Collins waited until Todd Blanche’s confirmation was all but assured to conveniently announce her opposition. But Mainers see through her charade, after she voted with Trump 96% of the time, including votes for some of his most extreme, right-wing nominees. Maine deserves a Senator who will actually stand up to Trump’s harmful agenda.”

Collins has supported the vast majority of Trump’s nominees, including those who have undermined public health, refused to acknowledge the reality of the 2020 election, and numerous anti-choice federal judges – including Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, who helped overturn Roe v. Wade.

NOW, they can say it:

She conceded, which was odd, but ok.

Social media sites are not news sites. Two out of probably at least a score of news organizations that may end up being embarrassed about their early do not provide grounds for accusations of “fake news.”

Hold it, hold it! AP (on whom Josh Marshall relies) has just called the race for El-Sayed. The NYT, citing AP, has also just headlined his victory.

The Republicans are hanging on in Missouri. If the Democratic party had any presence Republicans would be gone. The public is sick and tired of being told they can’t have nice things by out of state billionaires.

What’s odd about it? Presumably, since the pro pols know how to interpret election results according to the profiles of counties, municipalities, and even wards and precincts, she is confident that she’s lost. Let’s hope that her swift concession is a sign of her readiness to lead her supporters in backing El-Sayed in the general.

I can’t agree – a divisive battle over the count in the primary would have a good chance of weakening the party’s position in the general election.
It was the right thing to do.
