The administration governs by propaganda. There’s bluster, threats, and even real violence — all deployed to push a far-right agenda forward while dissuading as many people as possible from opposing it. But what happens when that all-out campaign to intimidate makes contact with reality? Nowhere has that approach been clearer than in Chicago. Spearheaded by deportation…
It seems that non-violent civil disobedience is still relevant and effective. I’m amazed (but not surprised) that these arrest cases are falling apart through a combination of grand juries failing to indict, and judges dismissing cases. And I’m so proud of my Chicago neighbors for standing up against the unlawful actions of the federal forces.
Greg Bovino and Andy Ngo are both sniveling cowards who hide behind institutions and norms to inflict their vengeful sadism on others. Regular Americans can spot bullies. Pursuing these absurd, dishonest prosecutions is meant to look tough, but the more they lose, the more ridiculous MAGA becomes. Maintain solidarity, don’t knuckle under, and never stop laughing in their faces.
PS: If you’ve never heard what Greg Bovino sounds like, I encourage you to find a voice clip. Dude thinks he’s RoboCop, but he sounds like mall security.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
Let’s hope the civil lawsuits soon begin.
Next administration should prosecute the real terrorists: Greg Porcino and the DHS goons
The next administration will not be sworn in until January of 2029. I’m hoping there is a blue wave at the midterms that returns at least the House to Democrat control and they have subpoena power to start investigations then
What’s with the headline? There’s no evidence in article (or otherwise) that Chicago protesters are “reeling” – which suggests on the verge of losing.
Yeah. That’s some kind of a typo. I can’t figure it out.
A massive turnout in the cities could swing some Senate races.
Hope springs eternal
eta: I haven’t missed a general election in 48 years. Even off-off years and not about to start now.
(I’ve skipped primaries where everybody is unopposed)
Perhaps “reveling”?
While Robledo was detained, ICE officials played up the arrest, calling the couple “armed rioters”
But these two are true patriots.
And remember, this all was happening in an American city. The majority of those harassed and arrested were not seasoned protestors, but ordinary people upset about the use of state violence against their neighbors. Chicago has both a long history of standing up to institutional power and recent experience with officers of the law overreaching their constitutional authority. Trump isn’t smart enough to know not to step into it.
Hats off to these folks. They’re doing the hard work.
My kinda town, chicago is. Proud of these folks. Proud of our courts, not believing the bull spewed by ICE and MAGOT Feds. Proud of CPD, for being professional throughout.
I gotta say, this photo looks like it came from Doofus Central. She’s got a toy hiding there in her fist and he’s got what looks like it came out of a large Cracker Jacks box - and the facial expressions. Whatever, good for them for protesting and glad the charges were dropped. They were right, the gov’t was wrong.
reel?
“Miramar Martinez was shot five times in October by a CBP officer after she got into an accident with the agent’s car while driving. DHS called her a ‘domestic terrorist.’”
The DHS statement continued: “We have video evidence of her aggressively using her body to deliver blows to CBP bullets. Individuals who attack federal bullets will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
