Although the committee hasn’t named the GOP lawmakers who texted Meadows, chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told reporters after the House Rules meeting that he expects the panel to do so in the future.
“At some point they will be [named], but it’s a little premature to do it right now,” Thompson said, according to NPR
It’s been many years since I’ve felt this way going into the holiday season.

He’s getting up in years and knows he will leave nothing of substance behind him. So he latches onto the nearest available source of recognition, which is Trumpism. The fact that he already turned over materials that didn’t give him the ‘honor’ he needs only makes his regret run deeper. So his reaction is a knee-jerk one that makes him look even more foolish.

Whether we like the GOP corporate/Cheney wing or not, Dems recognize–rightly, IMO–that if there’s going to be a Republican party, it’s better that it be in the hands of thinking beings, even if they’re greedy and selfish, as opposed to Koolaid-drinking apocalyptic death-cultists and gangsters.

I think it’s an interesting question whether he could have actually stopped the riot if he had responded immediately with a plea to leave the Capitol.
That mob was fired up on emotion and adrenaline. They probably would have thought it was a fake message, or he was being pressured by some nefarious cabal. What actually stopped it was Babbitt getting killed. Suddenly shit got real, it was no longer MAGA cosplay, and when CP reinforcements and the Guard started showing up they melted away.
It’s still important to explore all the timelines and point out what Trump could have done and didn’t, while he was enjoying watching it on TV. I just think he had set something in motion that not even he could stop. It took a lethal response by the CP to end it.

If it was a Dem as the “face” of it, the MSM would already have either moved on or focused their coverage on spinning in the GQP’s favor. I think the theory is that she helps blunt that…maybe…altho the Zombie Fourth Estate is still failing on this overall.

The Cheneys etc do not think of the MAGAs as Republicans. Since Nixon’s southern strategy they have been the minions needed to corral enough votes to gain power. Trump managed to get the rethug nomination in 16 because .all the other candidates were less than lame and/or distasteful. Now MAGAs rule the roost.

For obstruction of Congress yes, but @grandpajoe was talking about the attempt to subvert the GA election, and that would be breaking a state law. I think we can assume the 1/6 committee is sending anything they find to the Georgia SOS or other authorities that are investigating this.
