Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) made clear on Wednesday that she has no plans to back down on her vehement criticism of former President Trump amid House Republicans threatening to give her the boot as its conference chair.
I think she’ll lose this fight but, if she hangs tough like this, she just might make some Republicans rethink their priorities and, who knows, actually do something constructive about it; maybe even back off a bit from the crazy. Hey, it could happen, right?
There is much at stake now, including the ridiculous wokeness of our political rivals, the irrational policies at the border and runaway spending that threatens a return to the catastrophic inflation of the 1970s. Reagan formed a broad coalition from across the political spectrum to return America to sanity, and we need to do the same now.
She’s at the end and knows it. At least she’s brave enough to go down in flames. Future history is being recorded and she would undoubtedly prefer to be seen in reasonable light. Overall Cheney has been as bad as her dad but that’s still better then the likes of Cruz et al. Lol. Can you imagine that. Her dad was a complete asshat who caused nothing but harm.
It is me or does it seem that TPM is really slow to update the news? We’ve seen the Arizona story as the “top” since this morning. Other stuff has happened …
The problem is Republicans are still using the “big lie” as an excuse to make dramatic changes in voting rights across red states. If they admit there was no fraud, (and there wasn’t) it raises the question then why make dramatic changes in the right to vote?
The hope is that this means the GOP will fail and go spend time out in the wilderness, but I never thought Trump would win in 2016, so this is still worrying.
They will kick out the heretics. Then the MAGA GOP still have its big built-in advantage in the electoral college and the senate, and I don’t trust that they’ll concede if they lose a close race next time. They’re armed to the teeth and I don’t trust them to avoid violence. The cancer is still going strong over there.
We need the DOJ or the SDNY to hurry the hell up with their indictments - assuming Donny’s guilty - which I think is almost a certainty. Otherwise that whole legal edifice is a scam.
I’ve said it elsewhere but there was a 50pt spread between Cheney and her dem challenger in 2020. Dems can’t win that seat. If she loses the GOP primary, Dems should pull back and let her challenge the Republican as an independent.
It costs Dems nothing, could avoid a minority plurality outcome (which is always terrible), and maybe supports democratic values even if we don’t like her policies.
