Cheney: Addressing Capitol Attack ‘Matters Hugely To The Survival Of Our Country’ | Talking Points Memo

Oh no! If he was watching TV, he was watching his handiwork.

Tucker is repulsive, and his appearance would be improved by a bag over his head. His stupidity would be less obvious if he STFU.

Did he stop wearing bow ties after Jon Stewart cleaned his clock?

They’ve been doing it for decades, this wing of the party at least, now its overwhelmingly dominant one. The GOP is the party of racial and cultural resentment and grievance–and, of course, greed and corruption. So of course they’d try to misdirect.

Yes, unless the masks are made of white fabric, cover the entire head, and have eyeholes cut out.

we’re very much going to be focused on substance and on the issues.

Really? And what would that be?

Sounds like another version of ‘thoughts and prayers’

That made me think, the KKK hoods would have been terrifically effective masks. We should have encouraged the GOP to wear them.

But they are going to be totally “focused on substance and on the issues” now.

The GOP is about nothing BUT substance and issues. As in substance abuse and the issues that ensue from it.

In fact, the full transcript and audio includes “boisterous laughter” at this point in her remarks.

Yeah, in the Bermuda Triangle, which seems quite fitting.

None of these Republicans will admit it, even Liz Cheney, but they all would have been just fine with a successful Trump-led coup so long as a) they remained in power and b) Democrats were kept out of power. They would just spin it as proof that the election was fraudulent and Trump was the actual winner by a landslide because … what else could possibly be true?

They are all would-be authoritarians. That Joe Manchin and Kristin Synema are letting them use the power they have in the states to set up another, supposedly “legal”, coup via voter suppression and bogus ballot counting is an unforgiveable sin. Democracy is hanging on here by a fingernail and don’t think for a minute that the most ardent Trump supporters are considering political assassination as a viable means to power, if need be. And the Rs holding office would just shrug and accept the power gained via murder of their opponents.

I just hope I never get to be proven right.

“The Republican Party took an unusual approach to writing its convention platform for 2020: It decided not to write one.” There are limits to the GOP’s ability to focus.

"He put a video out later.”

I expected more from the Bravest of the brave, Sir Donald! who said “I really believe I’d run in there [Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School] even if I didn’t have a weapon.”

Sometimes speaking a simple truth can look like heroism. Some times it is. Liz sees what’s coming. But she’s a day late and a dollar short.

Cheney couldn’t have highlighted McCarthy’s abject cowardice any better than if she had gotten a hold of one of Trump’s sharpies and drawn a picture of little Kevin on his knees, arms outstretched, while looking worshipfully at Trump’s golden statue.

I wouldn’t look at Cheney in entirely negative terms. Trump, Trumpism, Trump Crew, Trump Minions, Trump rallies, FOX and RWNJ media have produced people who pose a significant obstacle to governance–and, indeed, public discourse–in the United States.

Biden would probably praise Cheney. He just doesn’t have to at this point in time.

In point of fact, Biden will address a host of issues tomorrow which should be riveting.
