New numbers from CBS News and the New York Times show Americans’ outlook on the economy is improving slightly and President Obama’s numbers along with it. Obama’s approval rating on handling the economy — slated to be one of the chief metrics in the 2012 presidential cycle — has ticked up to 44 percent approve to 50 percent disapprove, further from the depths of late 2011. Obama’s overall approval rating in the new survey has also improved to 50 – 43, while he leads former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a potential matchup by six and and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum by eight.
