Pretty sure, despite his affinity for surgery, that Carson is likely a sociopath or suffers from borderline personality disorder.
He has an marked deficit of normal compassion levels and really can only view the world from his own perspective; this is just another example.

Having worked in the medical field for many years in my second career, I have to say that I have known a few surgeons (just a couple) that may have had an affinity for surgery because they were sociopaths.
