I got into urban planning and transportation planning while in graduate school for public administration. It led me to positions in city department of transportation, working for a city council member on transportation and parks issues and at a state regional transportation agency where I’ve been for the past two decades.

This past Christmas I was torn about what to give my sister, her two sons, my step-mother, and my half brother’s family. I had been buy Amazon gift cards for a couple of months. None of these people live in my state.
Some years ago someone gave me an Amazon gift card and it sat in my junk drawer until such time as I couldn’t replace something I had bought from Target or Walmart. I do believe in shopping local, but it’s disheartening when you need to replace something you bought locally and now the only place to get a replacement is Amazon.

Certainly he is a nearly incoherent ball of rage, and pretty stupid to boot, looking to please himself in every way. He gets the biggest kicks from hurting and humiliating others, so that’s always high on the list.
But I’m starting to sense he’s lost control of the narrative. As other evil shits whisper in his ear - who to appoint, who to punish - he seems out of it, not really able to grasp the import of what he’s doing. He’s decompensating, fading, trying to remember the phrases he’s supposed to say and often getting it wrong, dozing off at Cabinet meetings. Surely everyone around him sees this, and foreign dignitaries are starting to take advantage of his increasing incompetence.
I don’t think he wants to burn it all down. I think he just wants to please himself and be surrounded by people who tell him every minute of every day that he’s wonderful. At this point I bet it would be totally possible to move him aside, have him wander around in a faux office, scribbling his name on big pieces of paper, feeding him his Happy Meals, driving him to the golf course every day. This is how they treated his dad when he was in the end stages of Alzheimer’s - fake office, his aides soothingly accommodating his requests as they wink to each other.

If you remember when the DonOLD was campaigning he didn’t mention on the campaign trail what he’s doing now. I also don’t remember while DonOLD was campaigning that he mentioned that Musk was going to be allowed to run amok through the whole of the US gov’t, nor did DonOLD promote the highly unqualified folks that he has placed as heads of depts and agencies.
What they did hear and ignored is all “dictator” references, I assume that they assumed it was a joke.

I think this is spot on. It was evident in how he campaigned the last 4 or 5 months, he was diminished physically, and energy-wise. But I’ll add that he doesn’t not want to burn it all down either, he simply DGAF about anyone who is not him. It’s a true mental illness.
But yeah, he’s not in control of this anymore.

Good luck with that. Dems don’t understand that consequences (also named revenge) are required to deter bad behavior. Dems always, “go high,” “look to the future,” and avoid anything that might “divide the nation (i.e. anger Republicans).” Dems years of refusing to mete out harsh consequences to Republican crooks and their billionaire controllers (because of fear of angering Republicans) is in large part why we are in this position today. So, don’t hold your breath looking for anything different if Dems ever get in power again. Our Dem leaders will kowtow to the billionaires who dangle some chump campaign change in front to them and revert to cooing about the need to “heal the nation” by letting bygones be bygones.
