Capitol Police Are Beefing Up Travel Security For Lawmakers

Does this mean Lindseymat will finally wear a mask when he walks through a crowded airport? Or could they at least put a bucket over his head?

"Blodgett outlined in the email plans for an online portal that will allow lawmakers to report ā€˜anything unusual or suspiciousā€™ā€¦ā€

Like GOP lawmakers bringing loaded weapons onto the floor of the House.

Or GOP lawmakers who tweet support for murdering the Speaker.

Maybe GOP lawmakers who conspire with armed insurrectionists to overthrow the US government.

Things like that.

The GOP can put a stop to most of the security threats just by siding with reality and expelling people like Greene, Boebert, and Gaetz. I know they wonā€™t, and my guess is right now theyā€™re figuring out how they can grift off the added expense while blaming Democrats for spending the money.

I vote for bucket.

It seems to me that the new members of Congress need the HR lecture on appropriate use of Twitter and Facebook, plus a refresher course for certain members of Congress who should know better.

Iā€™m probably not the only one, but I canā€™t stand when my Congresswoman, or Senators use their ā€œofficialā€ social media accounts to message nongovernment views. I donā€™t need you to tweet your daily bible passage, or show you and your spouse pre-covid enjoying a baseball game or your grandkids. Being a member of Congress is a job, not a lifestyle.

Or at least the ā€œteamsā€ that manage the sites for themā€¦

Make that two votes for the bucket, only install it permanently.

Newly-elected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) came under fire earlier this weekā€¦

If only.

Do we have to wait until one of the authoritarian members of the cult of personality that used to be a political party shoots a democratic or sane republican lawmaker that still values the constitution before there is any accountability?

What makes you think that would bring about accountability?

No mention of armed escorts so that a Rep can get from their office to the restroom down the hall without being shot by a Q-Anon banshee.

Itā€™s only started.

Most of these people come from states that have ā€œat willā€ employment, maybe they should get a taste of what that is like. Elected be damned. You want to be represented then vote for someone who can follow the bare minimum of social norms, have a modicum of social graces, and doesnā€™t threaten the lives of other members of Congress.
I wonder sometimes if the voters in these peopleā€™s districts would put up with the same kind of shit if their county/city council member acted this way?

If Marjorie offers you a ride home, run away.

Especially if sheā€™s blaring this:

Itā€™s really sad that they are planning permanent fencing around the Capitol, that goes against the spirit of that place. I remember walking the ground a couple times when Iā€™ve visited, itā€™s actually a nice spot and it feels connected to all of our history. The fact that we are going to lose that, and that Republicans refuse to take steps to curtail the fascists that caused the loss, is infuriating.

Weā€™ve already seen that these groups are willing to plan attacks against Democratic politicians, with the intent to kidnap, ā€œtryā€, and execute them. I fully expect an attack on politicians this year, including the successful assassination of at least oneā€¦weā€™ve reached that point now that Yā€™all Qaeda are going to go forward with their Yee-jad. Iā€™m sure Republicans will want to turn the page on that too, whenever it happens.

Tan suits.

Thought and prayers. But it is probably too soon to do anything realistic. Just like when twenty first graders were murdered. Greene is banking on it.
