CA GOP’s Unsanctioned Ballot Drop Boxes May Violate Law, Secretary Of State Says | Talking Points Memo

Pretty ballsy. I didn’t even see that one coming.

The mechanism is pretty simple. They open the ballots, return the GOP voted ballots and dump the Democratic ballots. Interestingly, this is not so much about The Cyrus or anything national, but local races like school board and water board.

In the meantime, our R governor orders we can have only one drop box per county in Texas, whether the population is 400 or 4.5 million. Because “ballot security,” a.k.a. limit the vote in the blue cities.

My thoughts, bets that any vote placed into the box never reaches any election offices. Or instead of CA actually returned to NV election officials where they would be properly discarded.

could they - yeah … but will it come to that ? … if it simply ends up being straightforward, no monkey-business collection & delivery … probably fades from view

but … if there is any clear cut fraud - stupid crude ballot tampering - Oh Boy will that be a brutal case - the GOP will immediately throw the perp under the bus and state “we hardly know this person”

So official drop boxes are bad, unless they are unsanctioned and used to destroy the ballots of voters who vote for the opposition party.

When will states and the federal government start passing harsh laws with mandatory minimums to punish these ratfucker pussies?

Win the contest of ideas, not through juvenile frat boy cheating.

The way to destroy the Republican Party is to return power to the people like campaign finance reform/public financing of campaigns and establishing national voting and voting rights standards. The problem is so long as there are a majority of Republicans, not conservatives, on the Supreme Court, they will keep power away from the people.

If the ballots aren’t properly sealed, the county won’t count them.

Anyone may return your ballot for you, as long as they do not get paid on a per ballot basis. In order for your ballot to be counted, you must fill out the authorization section found on the outside of your ballot envelope. [from my County Registrar site]

(It says: Person Authorized to Return/If you are returning this ballot on behalf of the voter, provide the information below. Note: Compensation for returning this ballot is prohibited by law.)

It’s super simple. On the back of the return envelope, in addition to the signature of the person voting, there is a box in the upper right hand corner that says the voter has handed the envelope over to X to return the envelope for them. So Granny in her bed at the Old Folks Home signs the back of her envelope and hands it to Nurse Daisy who will then put said envelope in the mail at the front desk for the mail carrier. If Granny gets up and takes a walk and drops her ballot in one of these fake boxes, she has not authorized anyone to collect said ballot and return it on her behalf. Granny has had her ballot fraudulently taken from her. LOCK THEM UP!

Of course it isn’t okay if anyone else does it - we are talking about Republican politicians here. Just what sort of whack-o tobacco are you smoking?

At least it wasn’t Bakersfield this time.

Exactly! There must be still penalties. It’s not like the Republicons are denying they placed the boxes. Just arrest and let someone spend some time in jail. WTF is the problem with Dem. leaders? Have they no spines at all?

I’d love to hear the thoughts of young people who still think both parties are the same beast.

I still hear this argument, constantly, but am reminded daily, by the RepubliCONS, what a load of crap that argument is.

@mattshuham It’s not that the drop boxes “may” violate the law. According to the CA SoS Alex Padilla they DO violate the law.

California Voters: you can check the status of your mailed-in ballot by going to: Where’s My Ballot: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status/wheres-my-ballot. You can do it now and receive a text or email when it is received.

It gives them a stash of Repub ballots to “find” in a ditch after the election. Thus “proving” that the election was tainted.
