“We make staff decisions on how to build the best team in politics, which I’m proud to report we have!” Smith stated in another tweet, listing “former Presidents,” “civil rights leaders,” “members of Congress,” and Buttigieg’s “high school teacher” as other sources of staff recommendations.
Your question might seem funny but in today’s election environment we all have to take questions like “who really is Putin’s preferred candidate” very seriously. Vlad isn’t going to say until it is way too late.
Buttigieg must have, long ago, perfected the Sober Sensible Thoughtful Adult pose, the We All Need To Get Along pose, the Wise Above-the-fray Seer pose. It’s a shtick that is designed for the centrist phenotype, and works perfectly on very many people (“He’s not pandering to Republicans! He’s broadening his base!”). It was always likely that PB would ‘friend’ FB. One thing you can take to the bank: PB, should he become president, would not even try to breakup FB.
I hate simpleton replies by spokespeople. This remark dismisses sincere concerns of those who might support Pete. This issue could kill his momentum as a rising star.
He should release his spokesperson, dismiss the Facebook clowns, apologize and move on. He knows how to get ahead of issues. It will be a real tell on his skills if he fails to take this seriously. Little sores fester into serious infection and defections.
“Having seen Mark’s visit to South Bend in 2017 and Facebook Live with Mayor Buttigieg, colleagues later asked Mark and Priscilla to connect them with the Buttigieg campaign as they were interested in joining,” LaBolt said in an emailed statement.
Oh, the horror! [gasp] The horror! Impure! Impure! They must be purged!
This is a smear. Buttigieg hired two people for staff positions, and they got letter of references from their previous employers. Which is pretty typical of what people do when they are applying for jobs anywhere, including for staff level positions on campaigns.
Yet you stayed surprisingly quiet about Sanders recent attempt at hiring a guy who makes incredibly vile youtube videos of MLK. I wonder why that is. Or his hiring of Nina Turner, who also works as a co-chair for his PAC. (which you know, completely destroys that legal obligation that PACs and campaigns not coordinate).
And then you choose Warren, of all people, to use as your example. Not Sanders, who as I just pointed out, has a pretty rocky history with his campaign hires. Odd.
This was from Sahil Kapur, one of the worst “reporters” that Josh ever hired to work at TPM. The man dealt in hypotheticals without any background data for his suppositions, and when he did do an actual report, it was like this…nothing more than some gossip that he tried to shine up into “something important”.
He is still just as horrible and lazy as he was when he reported here.
Buttigieg’s parents taught at ND, and ND played Georgia in Georgia this year – and everyone knows that Georgia’s state government suppresses votes!
How on earth did Buttigieg think he could run for President with that kind of vote-suppression baggage? What else is he hiding??? Only the purifying sanctimony of Saint Bernard the Eversleepy can cleanse him!
Oh, dear – now where did I put my smellin’ salts and faintin’ couch? I’ve got hours of pearl-clutchin’ to do!
Whose corrupt? Trump, absolutely. Zuckerberg, yes, if you define corruption as advancing his interests at the expense of the rest of us. Buttigieg? I hope not.
Deciding to be an attack dog doesnt bother me, because he’s in an overall spot where it’s necessary.
The thing is though, this story came out after Zuckerberg’s ‘free expression’ speech and the question that Buttigieg has to answer is: does he agree with some or all of it?
Make no mistake – Buttigieg is pure corporate Democrat. He’s perfected the skill of appearing to be substantive, but when you actually parse what he says, there is usually nothing there besides criticism of other people’s ideas.
