Are you suggesting the the dems need to be more radical? I’m thinking this is exactly what they DON’T need to do…but maybe I’m misunderstanding you.
Oh my, Harris doesn’t want federally mandated busing. No kidding… That was exactly the point that Biden was trying to make to her in his reply during the debate. Neither does he. The next day she claimed that their disagreement was really over states rights… -I guess she thinks she can duck both those things by leaving it up to individual schools boards.
Boy, sure are a lot of white guy takes happening on how a thing no one will remember a year from now will play a year from now that, right now, is moving old black people from Biden’s column to hers like an avalanche.
First thought - “Scorches”? Really?
Second thought - Please. Please don’t let the issue of school busing in the 1960’s and 70’s be what brings down our eventual Democratic nominee.
Memo for Mayor Pete; go back to South Bend and fix your crappy schools that punish black students and your white killing police force. Homophobia isn’t why we’re not voting for your gentrifiying arse; you just suck that’s all. Going after Harris with the help of that thot Lis Smith isn’t gonna help your horrible poll #s with us so think hard.
Amusing watching white liberals gang up on a black woman defending an out of touch old white man…
We’re matching…
This isn’t a walkback. This is a consistent statement consistent with what she said to Biden and said before that’s being distorted into a walkback by Biden’s media pals and, now, the guy with literally 0% support from a critical constituency. But hey, I do admit it seems to a be distortion meeting with some small success among people who were discomfited by the remark in the first place.
Fwiw and not much to even myself
my thoughts:
I thought Harris was going to run a, for lack of a better word, “establishment” Democrat campaign which would put her in direct competition with Biden
Now it looks like she’s going for a tightrope walk please everyone campaign but we’ve seen how, for good reason, this doesn’t sustain voter support (Beto, Buttigieg)
I’m not surprised to see her walking this back (& her single payer debate stance? I’m not sure if she actually did this or twitter people are being trollish) ETA: I guess there’s some disagreement over whether this is a walk back. Tbh that doesn’t concern me. The issue seems to be people think she cynically raised the issue to ding Biden. She did and it worked and…
I don’t really blame her, all of them (except Warren & Sanders) will have these kinds of moments or stay vague with buzzwords in an attempt to avoid them
I’d like the primary to become a race against a top two where one is “establishment” and the other “new progressive” (Warren & Sanders). It’ll probably be more spread out than that but it’s interesting, makes sense to me, the top 4 are currently Biden/Harris & Warren/Sanders
Well, now, your avatar just says it all, doesn’t it.
Once again the moron in the WH weighs in on something he knows nothing about. His gazillionteenth Frederick Douglass moment.
“Well, [busing is] something that they’ve done for a long period of time. You know, there aren’t that many ways you’re going to get people to schools… It is certainly a primary method of getting people to schools,” Trump said.
Your avatar is shouting at us.
Harris is my senator and she has my blessings in her goal to reach the White House and no fear that her seat won’t remain in the D column.
She also has the support of her sorority sisters from Howard University who’ll do what they can to get her to the finish line.
The group’s sheer numbers, organization and multimillion-dollar budget suggest a potential secret weapon in the campaign arsenal of Ms. Harris, who joined the sorority while an undergraduate at Howard University. She has called A.K.A. a major influence in her life.

I am not a supported of Biden and I in fact did not find her performance impressive. Biden made it quit clear that he favored voluntary busing. She tried to link him to segregationists who opposed mandatory busing but for other reasons.
It was not a difficult task on her part, since he had just praised his friendship with said segregationists, thus linking himself by his own words. (I am favoring Warren.)
I was and am still pretty pissed at Harris.
And on day one as President I promise Utopia!
Bussing was great and let’s do it again.
Oh wait I didn’t really mean it.
Not sure what your point is.
She’s my senator too and she’s also my number 2 pick after Warren.
I’ll support the eventual nominee no matter who it is but I’m hoping it’s Warren or Harris and ideally the primary would thin out so it was a race between the two of them.
I’m glad for you if you feel about Harris the way I feel about Warren. It’s great to have a candidate I feel really good about and so many others I’m cool with.
You just know he’s going to order the elimination of federal funding to all districts that use school buses.
We’re freaking out and there hasn’t been a primary or a caucus, just two debates with really bad formats for each candidate to grab time and headlines. We have only polls, public opinion, and more polls. It’s time to calm down because there’s a long road in front of us… Super Tuesday, March 2020, be there.
@ncsteve Saying fuckin’ A to this from the Left Coast.
Any of us would have been OK with Kamala Harris’s life. She comes from privilege. He father was a Stanford econ professor. Her mother was a cancer researcher, Her maternal grandfather was an Indian diplomat. From the age of 12, Kamala Harris lived in Montreal, Canada. She graduated from Westmount High School in Montreal. Warren may not have suffered racial discrimination but she labored against something universal… limited opportunities and limited resources. Those experiences unite many of us regardless of skin color. Your name calling diminishes you.
And two debates with different casts, so really just one debate in two parts.
Trump says thank you.
