That was a bullseye. The fact that most of us here could see that remains irrelevant. The groups he alludes to the true believer MAGA/GOP and the “independents1” chose the fantasy they wanted and ignored the consequences. The MAGA/GOP wanted the theatre of cruelty, economy be damned. While the “independents1” couldn’t be bothered to think about the implications of the promises made to MAGA/GOP.
1I’d still like proof they exist. It’s kind of like leprechauns, I can’t actually prove they don’t exist so some people will insist they do.
We are in a crazy time where people are burying their head in the sand when it comes to important stuff. I don’t blame them…there are myriad ways our media and culture have diseased us. We have to find ways to make folks care…then they can go look up or start paying attention to the truth of matters. Our problem is they either aren’t paying any attention at all or going to their comfort media. Not that the truth, facts, and their own common sense aren’t available.
Sting lifted a verse from some philospher in All This Time
“Men go crazy in congregations, they only get better one by one”
For the last decade or so, what happens in Congressional Hearings and even presidential Impeachments hasn’t made people care or shake loose their blinders. I know, I know…there are tsunami’s of misinformation and manipulation of these weak people’s attention. We need to find ways to slap them awake.
I guess too few of us have paid heed to the final line of the First Amendment: “But never speak ill of the dead, even in the form of direct quotations from the deceased.”
I was torn. She looked young enough in the photo to be one of the people on campus you knew to steer clear of, and as an adult you can see that she’s the person who will demand to speak to the manager if the cashier in McDonalds doesn’t curtsey to her.
Trump has consistently backed Putin, with regular threats that he might do something bold in the next two weeks, This could change, and quickly. Russia’s war economy requires the ability to export hydrocarbons and metals to keep going, and both China and India are not happy if this results in more secondary sanctions or just a slowing of the global economy as they represent nearly 40% of the world’s population. Even US oil companies see benefits from Trump standing up to Putin and finishing this thing. Putin has already gone so far as to get Poland to invoke NATO article 4 and create huge environmental risks in the Baltic. It is naive to think that futzing around is sufficient to deal with economic collapse in Russia. (Last time this happened you had e.g., loose plutonium on the black market). All European governments are watching the current situation closely, and nobody thinks Trump’s appeasement game has legs any longer.
Vulnerabilities could now be increasing. That suggests that a greater sanctions push by the West might just be enough to push the economy closer to the brink.
How many soldiers will be involuntarily discharged after Trump’s next DC ParadePalooza, for failing to properly, crisply goosestep as they pass His Highness?
