Alito
Well the word “magazines” appears once in the Constitution: a category of “needful buildings” that Congress can build under Article I Section 8. Magazines do not appear in the Second Amendment and are not arms under any definition of either word. So just limit magazines to capacity of five rounds or less, and quit pussyfooting around with enhanced background checks and red flag nonsense.
“the lack of abortion rights in colonial days”. Was abortion specifically outlawed by Federal law in colonial days? If actions were not illegal did people have the right to pursue them?
Like TFG – the three justices he nominated to the court operate the same as he does. They are wrecking balls chosen for their zeal in destroying a century of progress for the sake of their cherished 18th-century logicisms.
If we hadn’t figured out by now, SCOTUS are the hometown rightist referees. The only discernible consistency will be whatever it takes to help Team Republican. They’ll always call holding on the liberal offense, never call pass interference on the rightist defense, and the other way around, and if that’s not enough just make shit up out of thin air.
Better and better?
In what world do you live?
Screw her. Just a Republican token and dupe.
And now they are strutting and preening in their underwear. Children, look away!
Alito, appointed by George W. Bush. Hmmm … I seem to recall something about Bush getting into office because of a vote count problem in 2000 … which Reagan/Bush Sr.-appointed Justices just halted because, well, no historical precedent or something equally vague.
Is there a pattern here?
Tell that to the Bernie Bros and “Greens.”
Happy now, Susan? The fruits of your labors since 2000 are just starting to fully ripen.
Give them few paltry hundred million to retire, get them the fuck out.
Hell, I’d be fine with giving them a billion each. It’d be a bargain.
I think we can clear out at least 7 with a total appropriation of about $200 million. Kagan will stick around because she’ll want to be the new chief justice and Justice Handmaid’s Tale is anointed by Jebus, so we’re probably not getting rid of her either.
I’m certain I will trigger someone with this comment, but whenever we talk about Thomas’ stupid, nonsense decisions I imagine him sitting there saying, “I’m impotent and I’m gonna act impotent.”
In the “Wild West”, sheriffs confiscated the guns of town visitors if they weren’t turned over voluntarily. How is that not a “historical precedent” for law enforcement dealing with carrying weapons in town? Maybe the various cities should just pass a law saying guns are outlawed in their town, period, just like in Tombstone, AZ in the 1880s, and require people to turn them in. I know, the Republican Supreme Court will say that’s not constitutional, while they ignore this BS “historical” argument…their entire goal is to force everyone to go around armed at all times. Well, at least the white conservatives, I’m sure they can easily claim that the Constitution and history don’t give non-white Christians the right to have a gun, since they didn’t have it in 1787. Heck, their argument here is along the lines that “slavery is fine because we did it back then”, it’s just as absurd.
They don’t know any better that’s why they don’t care. They’ve been bought and paid for and told how to vote, so they do it. They work for their oligarchs, not us.
I’d like to see what happens to him when he explains to Ginni why he voted to overturn Loving.
This is true, and they never will as long as rulings are treated as the last word with zero scrutiny by policymakers. It’s time to start publicizing sections of any ruling that clearly intentionally misrepresent precedent and history or flat out lie about objective facts and for the affected institution or branch to say, “We can’t possibly follow a ruling riddled with fundamental errors.”
It’s sarcasm.
It’s 2022. We’re supposed to progress, not regress.
