Oh, I bet they did, it’s just that he was too stupid to learn it.
Who elected Nixon. Twice. Three times if you count 1960. About 40% of the country is just fine with an authoritarian fascist in power, and that’s what deSnivel brings to the table.
One thing I can’t understand is the employees that have been with him for years. The way he acts in public makes me think that he was abusive to them, so why’d they stay? He surely wasn’t paying them, on or off the books, that great of an amount of money.
I think you’re leaving out the huge amount of change that happened in American society from the end of WW II through to the Nixon years. For starters we were coming off a high of winning the second world war. People were changing, more people were attaining a college education, more people were making good money, the suburbs, cars, leisure time, and stopping segregation.
Then there were the outside forces on SE Asia, wars for what? A draft that were taking young men out away from college to fight in a different part of the world with Korea and Viet Nam.
Nixon was going to fix this, Nixon was going to keep the good times going. We always seem to forget that there is a price to pay for the good things we got.
What scares me this time is that the lessons from the past aren’t being remembered. And yes it can happen here.

Oh, I bet they did, it’s just that he was too stupid to learn it.
It is hard to teach someone that already knows everything. In his mind he is always the smartest person in the room.

the smartest person in the room.
That was me until I hit 25 or so, then I came to realize I was actually pretty stupid when it came to the big picture.
seeing how possible it is they’ll have an incentive to try now.
In the the hands of a non idiot they could have pulled it off.
We have to get away from custom and strengthen Law
because as we can see the right doesn’t really care for democracy
and the GQP has gone totally scorched earth since the newt Gingrich days.
I like the spirit here.
bravo!
40% of the country is in a media monopoly since before the days of radio. Also, roundly ignored by most Americans.
Fascism didn’t leap out of a vacuum.
Trump was scared of the Floyd protests and protestors. I wonder if Trump was suddenly reminded of his comments to Police Chiefs- telling them to not be so nice to people they arrest. He had called for the police to be more brutal and we then had video after bodycam after dashcam of it happening. It wasn’t new, but seeing someone slowly die at the hands of Derrick Chauvin while three other cops let it happen in broad daylight on a busy street was too much. It was happening live on tv during the protests- police driving by crowds and shooting tear gas into them, cops misusing rubber bullets and this video. I keep going back to this video because it encapsulates the Floyd protests. There was no irony in police brutalizing peaceful protestors for protesting police brutality, then calling for backup after they escalated the situation. Trump loved this until the protests were at his door, and the protestors weren’t there to shower him with love.
We saw how truly weak and fearful Trump was. He was also very angry that Mayor Bowser chose to participate in painting “BLACK LIVES MATTER” down 16th Street NW.
Trying to visualize TFG running away…
Nope, can’t do it.
The statue would have him in about one step, maybe less.
We should count our lucky stars that a strong capable woman was Mayor of DC. Who knows what a less capable, less democratic Mayor would have done.
Trump thought they were his personal police force and the fact that the mayor was a mere woman? Icing…

It’s not his house. The White House is ours.
That’s the very same rationale employed by the J6 insurrectionists to justify their invasion of the Capitol.
What more realistically is “ours” are the public spaces outside the security perimeters of both buildings. Which is where the BLM protesters were, and which is very much not where the J6 insurrectionists were.
True enough, but some people take good care of their houses and others burn them down. My broader point was that Trump never got that everything was not his, including the U.S. Treasury.
Whatever happened to the two helicopter pilots who did ‘urban suppression’ maneuvers which were dangerous to a group walking (marching) down the street?
I remember wanting to know who ORDERED them to use that tactic.

So Trump doesn’t like protests…
, especially outside his residence?
Block Party outside of Mar a Lago! Should be WILD!!
I think we need to gather all the different types of noise makers. Have a contest to see which annoys him the most.
