Booker Slams Biden’s Repeated Mistakes On Race

Trump, Corey

Not Biden, or any other Dem candidate.

Well, if you’re talking Bernie, he’ll be needing a caretaker…

Biden has always been a walking gaffe machine; part of his folksy, I’m-just-like-you charm persona. But I’m starting to wonder if he thinks he can woo the mildly racist (“I’m not a racist, but…”) crowd by playing the victim of radicals.

Yep. I got the distinct impression that to prep for the debate, the moderators (can’t call them journalists) skimmed through social media and “news” stories rather than peek into the candidates’ position papers and achievements.

Booker has been shooting for President since he was in about Junior High School. He will shoot for VP if he thinks it will help him be President. But I think that the fact that he found it expedient to announce to the World holding our breath to find out why he was still single at his age, that his “girlfriend” is actress Rosario Dawson (and remember her during the 2016 campaign? She accused Dolores Huertas of the United Farmworkers Union to be a sell out because she endorsed HRC, Dawson having played Huertas in a movie and therefore being in a position to judge anything in Huertas’ life) indicates to me that he will not be happy to be nor is he angling for the VP slot.

I am sure neither Booker nor Harris will try to appeal to the “mildly racist” voters. Maybe the Dems could pick an issue that stretches beyond the racial boundaries like, maybe, health care.

I meant Biden is trying to appeal to the mildly racist. The so-called centrist voters.

Well, you don’t have to limit your view to this election. My parents, of the WW2 generation, ate up JFK’s candidacy. In part because they were Catholics, in part because he was of their age, but in large part because the Media ate up and then served up industrial sized portions of family movies and touch football games and all that good stuff. There used to be Republicans and conservative pundits like Midge Decter who complained about that aspect of the political coverage. That is until they basically used it for Reagan’s campaign and the 8 years we all had to hear about “The Great Communicator” who single handedly ended The Cold War all by hisself.

I know what you meant.

Biden may not be a racist, but he benefited politically by playing one for a good long time!

Nominating Biden is not playing it safe, it’s throwing away the election. All he’ll get is the old vote and the not paying attention to history vote. Not enough, we need the 8 million new voters to come out.

I don’t know about that. For me, Booker’s personal demeanor is so much calmer now, since he’s been running for president.

Yep. This is why a Michael Dukakis or Fritz Mondale couldn’t move the needle. Too boring. In this go-round, Hickenlooper and Inslee barely get a mention and Gov. Bullock doesn’t even make the stage. Qualified but dull doesn’t cut it. This wasn’t set up as a discussion of ideas, it was intended to be that “food fight” that it became. Harris complained of the food fight, then hurled a gob of mashed potato at Biden. Yippee.

Ok yeah. But to be fair, I know who Kamala Harris is and I was impressed with her during the Kavanaugh Hearings (unlike Booker who was just…weird).

I really have no idea who Bullock and Hickenlooper are. And I consider myself reasonably well read and informed. And though I sometimes find Bill Maher obnoxious, I very much approved of what he did Friday night, held up photos of 10 of the candidates, said something about their respective candidacy, and threw each photos\ over his shoulde, saying “Get the fuck out of here,” to 10 of them, including Hickenlooper, Ryan, Swallwell and probably Bullock.

Notwithstanding your statement you’re not on board for Biden, I believe Biden showed he wasn’t ready by ceding his time two times by my count. He was out of gas, he’d forgotten the briefing he barely paid attention to, whatever, his body was there, his attention not so much.

That is my point. The media writ large is not covering those people because they have deemed them boring. You can read the media all day (as we both apparently do) and not see a trace of info about John Hickenlooper, who I think is the person most qualified to actually be the chief executive of the United States. He is well qualified, but he is not exciting.

I cannot find a way to give a fuck what Bill Maher says or does.

On Swalwell. Appearances on MSNBC talks shows made him. This appearance on MSNBC will be his undoing. Praise god.

@timorwig You’ve described Inslee in your description of Hick, full of good ideas but as exciting as yesterday’s leftovers.

It probably doesn’t mean much, but I give Biden a pass on the hoodies comment as he was specifically calling out a stereotype, not endorsing or reinforcing it, as part of his point. I hope that people don’t dilute the larger message by going too far in criticizing just anything he says that touches on the issue.

Most telling statement by Biden: “Uh, my time is up.”

He is not present. Thought he’d coast because of BHO and our lasting fondness for him. Not happening.
