Booker Drops Out Of Presidential Race | Talking Points Memo

Not for nothing, but Mr. Small Donors Only has a bit of a problem with following campaign finance law:

Iā€™ve given that thought. The last election was essentially a tie, although Hillary did win by 3 million votes out of 130 million cast. Millions are sick of Trump, but Iā€™d venture the same 63,000,000 he got in 2016 mostly holds. A few GOPers that voted Obama might not do it again. Would Obama win in 2020? I donā€™t think itā€™s a given. Pointing out the populace is polarized, and vast swaths of people are troubled, if not outright mentally disturbed, is not cynicism, itā€™s reality.

In the mean time Iā€™m starting to really believe Tom Steyerā€™s play in SC is to annoy independents right out of the political process or at least turn off voters to any Dem, his ads are running so much.

Seriously I heard lots of small talk over the holidays down there of people ā€˜sick of politicsā€™ when his ad would come up every other commercial break or even people saying ā€˜dems are annoying me with thisā€™. And to be frank, his ads are annoying.

Iā€™m genuinely sorry to see this. I like Booker and heā€™s one of the more articulate candidates.

Itā€™s the American electorateā€™s responsibility to make sure that they arenā€™t duped.

The same goes for the American press.

Oh, I would be quite happy for him to move on to retirement.

Exactlyā€¦which is why I:

  1. Am annoyed with Bernieā€™s campaign taking low blows at Warren
  2. Am impressed with Bloombergā€™s campaign that is laser-focused on exposing donnieā€™s shit.

ETA: Not that Iā€™d vote for Bloomberg, I am just happy that he is not attacking Dems with his media millions.

Somewhat agree about parts of this, but Obama would have destroyed Trump.

Particularly when you consider that donnieā€™s campaign spring-boarded off the White discontented underbelly that never cottoned to a black president. If Obama hadnā€™t been elected, that sludge would not have been primed to follow any person who blew the right dog whistle.

Poor headline; should beā€¦

ā€œCory Booker joins the race for VPā€

Iā€™m not positive about that. Obama himself admitted in 2016 that he had lost connection with Iowa, who knows what heā€™d say now. Also, I donā€™t think Obama-ttump voters are the ones thatā€™ll help Dems this time. I think neverttumpers and indies (who might not vote for Obama in the past) are the key.

Yā€™all have forgotten what Obama does to people. He would have won - he has the charisma and the power over people.

Imagine if Sanders had shown this kind of grace when he was defeated in 2016, weā€™d have two more justices on the Supreme Court and a President working to save the planet and solve our problems instead of turn us against each other.

As long as anyone a new Democratic President chooses for their administration can be easily replaced. No Senators/Governors/whatever from seats that could be lost.

Yep. If Bernie had REALLY started campaigning for Hillary in earnest, the world would be a very different place.

Weā€™ve lost them at the presidential level, but not at the lower levels. I donā€™t want to discount the possibility of a minority candidate at VP. If a Dem wins the WH, I can see a multiracial, multi-generational, multi-gender cabinet that would more accurately reflect the balance in this country.

We donā€™t have that now. Not by any means.
