Blunt Decries ‘Alternative Versions’ Of Capitol Attack After Johnson’s False Claims | Talking Points Memo

“Totally unacceptable — we need to understand that’s an underlying principle of what happened on Jan. 6 that we don’t need to try to explain away or come up with alternative versions of,” Blunt said. “We all saw what happened and we know what happened. We know we can’t let that happen again.”

You and I are historians…and I know that both of us shake our heads in wonder at the pull of a paycheck…and a high status position (with perks) in “modifying” people’s fervently held opinons.

Is “alternative versions” the same as “alternative facts”?

The purification of the Republican Party continues! First the moderates. Now the insufficiently cuckoo-bananas. One wonders how many (or few) will eventually be left, and what their voters will look like. Enough to “drown in a bathtub”? We can only hope.

Because of our diversity, we are not a nation that can be held together by race, religion, or culture, and we are not a people that want to be ruled by an iron fist. But what we do have is the creed of our Constitution, and if we turn our back on that (as Republicans have done), we enter uncharted waters, and who knows what comes next.

Retiring Republicans appear to realize that and want to wash their hands from any responsibility, but it’s too late for that. This happened on their watch and they were complicit.

JUST the picture posted here of the interview, my first thought was it looks like SOMEBODY beat the crap out of Chuck. I have not RUN the video (I will be watching MTP in about 15m after I get thru Reliable Sources) but the STILL from the video above has Chuck a little wonky looking.

Yet you can bet your last doughnut that he’ll continue voting with the lunatics and criminals until the day he leaves office.

Typically, yes as it would use the same set of “facts”

I never would have believed it, but there it is for all to see. The Republicans are digging their own political graves, and doing a messy job of it. I am enjoying the hell out of it.

OT, but for those who enjoy watching goalposts go by, yesterday was March 20 and according to the news this morning, Biden is still President of these United States and COVID shut down parts of Mar-a-lago and the Idaho Legislature.

No word, yet, on the revised date for the Return of the Qing

Happy Vernal Equinox, anyway…

Because Heaven knows there are no relevant interviewees among the Democrats.

Ted John Danforth [H/T to our resident geneticist, @hardyweinberg] is said to be the arbiter of the GQP in Missouri. I think we’ll have a better idea when Danforth has indicated which way he is leaning.

Apparently (but not entirely) unrelated is the situation in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California. Bill Thomas has publicly expressed his disgust with Qevin McQarthy. It remains to be seen whether Thomas backs someone else in the CA-23 primary. It could prove to be really interesting if California is able to re-district before the 2022 election.

He’s still in shock over Hawley’s performance.

Maybe this time humility will quiet his tongue!
