The decision is lousy but has enough slivers of redeeming points to prevent it from being atrocious. We do need to keep cool, calm, and collected. A lot is challenging but a lot provides enough of a springboard to bounce back at some point down the line.
“The Court mandated that the government provide a minimum opportunity for due process to those slated to be removed under the law. The government must notify detainees that they’re subject to removal, the Court said, with enough time as to allow them to file habeas corpus claims challenging their deportation.”

The Trump administration admitted that, in his case, it had made an error, but maintains that it has no obligation to correct the mistake.
My crystal ball sees a lot of 5-4 decisions in our future…
…and not in a good way.
Those fucking fuckers
Umm…does any one have more … professionally worded points to use when i call my senators tomorrow?
Naive me thinking that with Boasberg being called a corrupt scumbag and the like by Trump and his acolytes the Supremes (Roberts most of all) would stand up for the power of the courts and the independence of the judicial branch.
Pretty easy to see the same majority, in a couple of weeks, ruling that 30 minutes, and a text to their lawyer, amount to reasonable time and in such a manner.
They have to have a lawyer?
One of the keys to successful electoral autocracy requires the autocrat to fuck with his various oligarchs from time to time to make sure they all try to line up into the “most loyal” category. Bill Ackman has been a major Trump donor, but may have trouble staying in the “loyal” column.
I’m waiting for the US to have its “Magdalena Andersson moment”. Andersson, who has a PhD in economics, was appointed to the post of finance minister by Swedish PM Stefan Löfven in 2014. At that time, pre-Brexit and pre-Trump, there was a lot of discussion on the right about “austerity”. She went back to her macro professors and asked what this term was? Something in fiscal finance studies she had somehow missed? Which was hilarious, there is no such economic concept, it’s a political concept. You don’t have to worry about it. And she didn’t, which was great for the Swedish economy and avoided thousands of hours of stupid discussion. By the same token, there is no economic basis for Trumponomic Tariffs. He has no idea what the WTO does or what he’s talking about, only that it makes everybody nervous. Andersson’s genius was to take a common political obsession off the table permanently. Similarly, Trump’s imagined economic history is a complete fabrication. The international division of labor works, and issues like saving the planet require global cooperation. The UK political classes, in contrast, bought into “austerity” and are still paying for it. Fiscal prudence requires adequate tax collection and avoiding executive and legislative capture. That starts by putting political fictions aside.
Not sure panic is the right response, but wow these Trump people are not very sharp. Some economist friends pointed me to this paper as a possible starting point for anchoring their nutty ideas. But no…reading very hard, hurt brain.

And if the government has not done? Just oh well?
“They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the cats!”
I do not believe what they say.
I believe they say what they need in the moment to get what they want.
All of them.
THIS WAS NO BOAT ACCIDENT!
Fuckers.
Basically, the government can deprive you of your constitutional right to due process so long as they deny you your constitutional right to due process.
The part that’s missing in all the anger about this decision is that that poor fellow is sitting in a foreign prison and may already be dead from the beatings and mistreatment, while the SCOTUS fiddles around, needing more time to make a decision that won’t favor the First Felon.
More concerned with pleasing a lawbreaker, these judges are.
That’s the travesty in all of this - the person in question is most likely already dead.
And no one will pay the penalty for this. Just a shoulder shrug and more distraction from the issue.
I think this conservative court would have diligently found a way to approve the movement of Jews to Concentration Camps by saying that Jews don’t really qualify as citizens here and anyway they left on yesterday’s train. Therefore you can’t appeal to German courts. But if you think there has been an error they would have recommended the court at Auschwitz as maybe having jurisdiction if they could still find the person…
The corrupt conservative controlled SC makes decisions based on ideology not jurisprudence. Increased conservatism will not allow America to thrive.
Roberts now has his legacy with his own historic “Dred Scott” decision.
