Trump is obviously grabbing and scratching at anything to stop his slide into the abyss, as he is being pulled down by his own policies and personality. It’s not going to work.

If he tries to stay in office past his expiration date, I suspect there will be a YUGE march on DC from concerned citizens. I suspect that it will make the million man march look small. I will be among them, regardless of the personal cost.

I’ve been reading that in the GOP they’ve said Trump has until Labor Day to turn things around and if not they’re free to distance themselves if that would help. You have to take that with several extra-large grains of salt but he’s really dragging the whole party down with him and they’ll save themselves if it comes to a choice.

If true, then September and October are going to be one wild ride!

The only constant in this administration is that the worst possible thing that they can do is always going to be tomorrow.

And if we’re not even hitting August and he’s already trying to toss out the election…

He’s lost it even more than usual. I can’t tell whether he’s trolling for the fun of creating disorder or so far gone that he thinks he’s serious. But he’s certainly given up on presidenting.

Does the GOP brain trust really think it can negate more than 3 1/2 years of unwavering support for Trumpism in the two months between Labor Day and the election? They obviously have no respect for the intelligence and awareness of their voter base.

They don’t.

What I recall reading is that privately the GOP leaders know the burbs are a write-off and they’re concerned now about diminishing support in his own base. If you have to split the difference a little, which any sensible politician can do, to get enough Dem votes to eke out a win, they may want the freedom to play that card.

Please remember that Trump doesn’t need US to get elected. He’s saying things like this because there’s a tiny sliver of people who went for Obama and then went for Trump and they believe in this bullshit. All he has to do is keep some of them in his camp and he pulls out a win, or at least a trip to SCOTUS, where they will vote in his favor.

The ONLY WAY we can win is to show up and vote for Biden (sorry Kanye) in huge numbers.

No. That’s not happening. The end of his term is a firm date and time. He will simply no longer be president. Should he be elected, Joe Biden will assume the presidency at noon on 1/20/21. It won’t matter what Trump does or doesn’t do because he will no longer control the military, the Secret Service, or any government agency. He will simply be a squatter sitting in the WH refusing to leave. Whether it is the Capitol Police, the Secret Service, the military, or Joe Biden himself he’ll be unceremoniously removed from the building.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if after he’s defeated in the election he just moves out of the WH. No fuss, no muss. Probably won’t happen, but he needs to go.

can any legal types out there gives the low-down on how trump would likely go about this and the likely outcome?

I’ve always had a problem with this reasoning. The Office of the President gets power from the constitution, whereas the person of the President gets power from the people and institutions who follow him (in this case, “him”). If the Secret Service refuse to follow the Constitution, if the armed services refuse to follow the Constitution, then Trump remains President.

Not a likely scenario, true. But that’s the reality of the situation.
