Acting Ukraine Ambassador Bill Taylor has emerged as a key witness in the House’s impeachment inquiry. But this week, he made quite a statement in the court of public opinion, in the form of a strikingly topical op-ed.
“It appears to me that Ukrainians want a new Ukraine — a prosperous, democratic Ukraine, where all citizens are held equally accountable under the law, where decisions by judges and MPs are not bought, where oligarchs do not wield influence over political and economic policy,” Taylor wrote.
Personally I think it would be cool if all American citizens were held equally accountable under the law, if decisions by the American government aren’t bought, and billionaire assh**es don’t wield undue influence over political and economic policy.
Though Republicans have defended Trump by arguing he was simply pushing for corruption investigations into Joe Biden and the 2016 U.S. elections,
Yes. In a similar vein, I have asked termites to check on the state of my home’s foundation. Am eagerly awaiting their reply, but they appear to have their mouths full at present.

“They want a new Ukraine where journalists do not face reprisal for honest reporting,” he added, “where businesses know they are investing in a transparent and fair environment and have an impartial court to mediate disputes.”"
Sly backhand. Ukraine wants all those things…but Amurikkka apparently doesn’t, as evidenced by us abandoning them in favor of achieving permanent minority-rules white Christian hegemony through authoritarian, autocratic neo-fascist plutocracy under Trump.
I listened to Malcolm Nance being interviewed by Brian Lehrer this a.m.; he is absolutely correct in stating that Trump is doing all of this in obeisance to Putin. All roads lead to Russia and Trump owes all his “fortune” to Russian oligarchs. There is a word for this kind of behavior; starts with “t” and ends with “reason.”
I just feel like someone who is rescuing trafficking victims only to learn the home you are placing them in are also traffickers. Victor Hugo could have written the book. Or maybe one of those depressing Russian authors…
My heart is breaking for all the victims of our country. The Kurds, the Ukrainians, the children.
Well, this is likely why Schiff put Taylor up first, because he obviously believes in right and wrong, and in the principles that the US is supposed to uphold. We don’t always, even the best administrations have made mistakes, but for a guy like Taylor Trump is the nightmare he never would have wanted for us. Hearing that moral statement in public, and hearing the Republicans try to snipe at him with BS conspiracy crap, is going to make a big splash tomorrow.
I don’t think there’s any question anymore that Trump is a Russian agent - and despite the IC and DoD being fully aware -he still holds singular power in foreign policy and intelligence classification. And because Republicans refuse to do their duty, we’re absolutely hamstrung and in dangerous, uncharted waters. This, in essence, is why so many of us are so incredibly frustrated. We all recognize the problem, but the solutions are just out of reach or have to wait one long year.
