Big Fans Of State Sovereignty Except When California Does It

Well, the former news outlets are now just tiny bespoke appendages to big media corporations, who also make billions doing other stuff that makes lots of money. The “parent” corporations are all in it for the money, period. If the vanity “news” appendage starts interfering with the money flow, it’s got to be curtailed.

It’s simple. “News organizations” are no longer news organizations. Just minor subsidiary money-losers.

Why are Congressional Democrats playing a baseball game tomorrow with Republicans. It’s raising money for charity……so write a check instead!
Today when the Speaker of the House was asked about Governor Newsom, he replied that Newsom should be “tarred and feathered.”
House Democrats are so far behind their constituents. They should cancel the game. Their actions do not reflect their rhetoric. Stop being collegial and stand up for us!
Canceling the baseball game is a good start, but only a start.
And if it’s not cancelled, anyone in the DC area who go heckle the DEMOCRATS would be doing us a favor.

I thought she was talking about Trump, Hegseth, Noem, Homan, et al., but then realized that they are clearly warmongers but fall far short of being elite.

“Perhaps it’s because they are confident that they will have access to nuclear shelters for themselves and for their families that regular people won’t have access to,” she said. “It’s up to us, the people, to speak up and demand an end to this madness.”

Eh?

Did she just discover nuclear weapons? Bit late to the table. Damn slick production. Hmm… I think she is up to something. Scaring the masses? Nah, she wouldn’t do that would she? After all, she is a part of the Trump administration.

True. Like Trump’s approach to international trade. There can’t be cooperation and mutual benefit; there can only be one winner and one loser in every trade deal.

With the ICE protests spreading across the nation will the Orange Idiot federalize the National Guard in those states as well ? I am seeing reports of protests in New York and Chicago with some in Texas as well. As a proud former resident of Austin I can guarantee the protests there are inevitable and will be large and enthusiastic. Will Texas be getting the Marines deployed ? I know that the people of Austin will not stand for it. And if UT were in full session people would already be out in the streets !

No details, but Austin and Dallas were out. Dallas had issues and arrests. But as said, no details, I have to go looking.

As much as I am tired of the phrase why don’t the Democrats do something, this is the smallest point they can make. Collegiality- bullsh!t Recent actions constitute a hill that the Democrats can and should die on, and be proud of it.

Hopefully they are working on an article 25 whip. Otherwise attending is inexcusable complicity. Subjugating in advance. If the rest of the country can protest within next two weeks, so can they. First they came for…

I know that the current president would be trying to fill stadiums during a moment like this. I don’t think that US representative Eric Swalwell would have any problem with active resistance, and plenty of others.

All should watch:

History sometimes provides a lot of good allegory, experience, lessons and logic, and our individual family histories of early 20th century.

Draw your own conclusions whether or how fascist world history of the 1940s apples to recent headlines.

do you know when that doc was released or how old it is?
it’s been a pet peeve of mine that not enough people know what a little weasel he was

Shit weasels are nothing new in this world.

What is new in this world is nobody knows how to read or think for themselves anymore. Lots of mental laziness. Our ancestors fought their rights why not us. There’s more of us than them. At the ballot box and otherwise. Lazy and very stupid Americans. Stupidity is exalted.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few notices here and there but nothing from my old local contacts. I’m about to ask some of my Facebook friends to send me what they have. Austin will always stand up to this kind of crap

I live just outside Los Angeles, and have tried to follow news stories on the protests. One thing I have not seen any news outlet report is the number of federal, state or local law enforcement officers who have needed medical care as a result of the “riot” and being “attacked by violent mobs” (as stated by the WH press secretary). I think the number might be ZERO, which would help negate the entire Trump narrative. Why haven’t Bass or Newsome mentioned this? That should be the headline on every news site.

Is there going to be a draft for the California War? Are women going be allowed to register with Selective Service System? The system currently seems to be limited to men ≤ 25 years?

That’s limited to WHITE men, thank you very much.

Is Trump just stumbling by luck into each and every step of Hitler’s rise to complete power? Or is he less ignorant than we give him credit for, and he memorized his bedside copy of Mein Kampf? Because if you replace “jew” with “immigrant,” and “Reichstag” with “self-driving Tesla,” pretty much every single thing he’s done, step by step, inexorably, tracks, and on pretty much an identical timeline.

Trump needs to distract and deflect to keep everybody’s focus away from the real economic policy questions related to government indebtedness, taxation and allocation of government finances and toleration of wealth disparity. For example, the top 800 families in the US control about $8 trillion in wealth, or more wealth than held by 200 million other Americans. You see nearly as large wealth disparities in both China and Russia, although “wealth” is likely to be pretty opaque. What it seems is that the world is moving to a tipping point and those with the greatest wealth cushions seem unconcerned. Musk, for example, is worried about warming up the mush with Trump. Mere deca-billionaire Alex Karp, the head of Palantir, says domination is freedom. Basically, identifying individuals and either selling them protection or beating them up and taking their lunch money (with your bespoke AI natch). Trump is right in targeting CA as it is the global source of uncertainty generation. At least some of this discussion filters into the public. The NYT profile of rural KY, in contrast, only suggests that most people have no idea what is coming at them. So where do we end up after this period of great uncertainty? Who knows. Gonna be a rough ride though, and if you are among the meek, I wouldn’t plan on inheriting the earth any time soon.
