Fuck the debt ceiling! It’s time the Democrats stopped getting rolled. Biden needs to go on TV every night at prime time and in simple terms explain what treasoness assholes the Republicans are. He needs to do this every night until January 19th, 2024. If the country’s credit is ruined, so be it! The Trumpers wound destroy it anyway. Joe, THIS is a big fucking deal!

Thank you, President Biden, for calling out the fascist cult. It may not change how even a single cultist votes but hopefully it will energize our base to Vote. We’re going to need every sentient member of the electorate to get themselves to the polls and having the President say loudly and often what’s at stake will surely help.

What is Biden’s reason for wanting to retain the debt ceiling? Why would it be irresponsible to do away with it?

“No,” Biden said, chuckling. “That would be irresponsible.”

what the actual eff?
what’s irresponsible is allowing the situation with this relic to continue

I like it when Uncle Joe gets out ahead of these fuckers.

He added, though, that he would not support a complete repeal of the debt ceiling, one of the options floated — and introduced in bills by Democratic lawmakers in both chambers — to defang this recurring Republican threat.

“No,” Biden said, chuckling. “That would be irresponsible.”

Hard disagree.
Letting R’s play with the debt ceiling is about as responsible as leaving the toddlers alone at the gun range. Time to take away the option.

My question is: will every Democratic congressional candidate run an ad continuously over the next 2 1/2 weeks pointing out this threat? That’s what we need

I don’t understand how repealing the debt ceiling would be “irresponsible.” It’s a fiction dreamed up to further gum of the works of a Congress that is already dysfunctional at its core.

The debt ceiling is a zombie law that has no relevance any more. We don’t need to fund WWI. It’s over, and the law should be repealed.

Yeah Uncle Joe got out ahead of Putin also too.

More attention should be placed on GOTV…and the spirit within our cadres of campaign workers and GOTV professionals.

The Right loves to insinuate inevitability of their grab to power. Too much of that is based on lies.

It should get a national headline and, to whatever extent it might have been needed, it provides an entree to members of the caucus who mighta felt they needed one as well as an incentive to those who mighta hesitated.
I think its a good move and am gladdened that he did it.

We see here that Elizabeth Warren, a liberal, supports eliminating the debt ceiling, while Biden, a “moderate,” if there is still any value to that term, is reluctant. However, I think he would overcome his reluctance if there were more Democrats, and not just Warren, in favor of it. And maybe it would also take a positive outcome in the midterm elections.

We understand what the debt ceiling means and we know that the Constitution states that the US government will pay its bills, but the average American does not understand that. To them they think the debt ceiling is a budget device to keep the government from spending more money than it has. To get rid of the debt ceiling plays into the Republican political gamesmanship and they will use it in their ads telling Americans “see we told you the Democrats spend your money without any controls or boundaries.” Americans would accept those ads without question even though we know it is the Republicans who spend without boundaries or control. With the debt ceiling there is this imaginary line that keeps the Republicans in check and when the Republicans hold America hostage, it is their reputation that suffers. I think the Democrats feel they need to keep the debt ceiling because it is the only way that they can bring the Republicans to the negotiating table otherwise nothing will ever get done in Washington DC.

There’s no point in providing the right with “fiscal irresponsibility” fodder.
It’s too much of a projection for them not to use it

Most Americans are really naive about economics and finances. Republicans play to this wallet-level view of the economy: You can’t spend more than you’ve got in your wallet RIGHT NOW. If you borrow money, you absolutely must pay it back, ASAP. It’s a moral imperative!

People are mostly in debt all the time: if not for their houses, then for their cars or credit cards. Continuously taking on debt and continuously paying it off are signs of fiscal strength and responsibility, as Alexander Hamilton would tell you. And a national economy is NOT your wallet.

It’s too bad Democrats believe (probably due to overpaid consultants) that they must not ever try to educate the voters. Facts supported by proven theories are the Dems biggest strengths, which they’ve failed to use. Against the Republicans’ fear-mongering hatred and lies, Democrats have not stood a chance. It’s a tribute to Americans that their party has not yet died out.

It is a very bad idea to fuck around with a significant part of the darr family income. Both parties need to keep their hands off medicare and social security except to keep them funded
It used to be the “third rail” of politics to fuck around with these two programs. Mess with either and kiss yer career g’bye

The debt ceiling has nothing to do with spending or with how much money the government has.

It’s about paying the debt, and usually has to be increased because of the increase in the interest owed on the debt. It’s just an acknowledgement that the government will pay what it owes.

Joe’s no orator, he’s not capable of stirring anyone’s souls let alone changing their minds. You wanna watch him at prime time? Know anybody who does? Not fucking watching him but instead fucking reading what he says works for me.
