I never argued against knocking off the Taliban and Al Queda in Afghanistan and bouncing the rubble. Then we should have placed a thug in charge, armed them to keep a lid on things and withdrawn, all within a year. Nation building is for idiots. The portions of Ukraine with high ethnic Russian populations will be vulnerable to Russian influence if not outright invasion. I see no reason to sacrifice one thing for these two kleptocratic countries.
Not sure how they compare to the good ole’ USA circa 2017-2020, but at any rate letting Putin do whatever the hell he wants would be worse.

What is the maximum you would be willing to do to prevent Putin from, essentially, occupying all lands bordering Russia where there is an ethnic Russian population of, say, 51%?
I suspect Putin is in trouble.
Just a few years ago he was on top of the world. Made himself the richest man in Russia, in part by arresting the former richest man and taking his assets. Sochi & the Olympics. Crimea. Brexit & the EU in trouble. trump and NATO in trouble. Oil prices high. Restarting foreign adventures in Syria and Iran (and having trump abandon our Kurdish allies) trump sabotaging the Iran nuclear deal… And the laws were changed so Putin could remain Russian President for as long as he wants.
Now? Trump is gone and Johnson is on the ropes. EU and NATO reinvigorated with increasing calls in UK to rejoin EU. Military intervention required to save Russian puppet in Kazakhstan. Russian economy seriously contracting. In two years Russia’s population has dropped by over 1.5 million. Covid is ravaging Russia and Sputnik is significantly less effective against Omicron.
Putin wanted to be Stalin reborn, but that’s slipping away - and the Russian mob is probably concerned about their wealth too…

It’s a damn hawk. I’d rather have this guy than the turkey buzzard that was sun bathing on my garage roof last year. When I saw I thought about running out there yelling “I’m not dead yet!”, but I didn’t want to startle it and have it shit all over the roof.
About 20 years ago we were going through the pre-work morning routine and I heard a shriek. I went outside in my bathrobe - and there was a full peacock perched on the peak of our porch roof over the door.
I have never seen a peacock in our lower middle class neighborhood before or since.

When I was younger there was a family down the road, .01 mile to be exact, that had a peacock. It would fly to our meadow and make such a racket.
The only thing worse is when the fox screams, it really does sound like someone is killing a woman.

This is nonsense. Joe Biden is a war hawk. The US is provoking Putin into action. WE are the ones who paid for the coup in 2014 in Ukraine. WE are the ones with bases and missiles on their border. Do some reading.
