President Biden on Monday took aim at former President Trump’s inaction as the Capitol insurrection unfolded on Jan. 6 while he acknowledged that law enforcement had to suffer through “medieval hell” during the attack.
Make no mistake, the Dems words being used recently will elicit maximum unhinged behavior from TFG that will subsequently damage the GQP. Then there is the saving democracy part that comes with it. Two birds with one stone.
“We saw what happened: the Capitol Police, the DC Metropolitan Police, other law enforcement agencies were attacked and assaulted before our very eyes. Speared. Sprayed. Stomped on. Brutalized. Lives were lost,” the President said.
“And for three hours, the defeated former President of the United States watched it all happen as he sat in the comfort of the private dining room next to the Oval Office,” Biden said. “While he was doing that, brave law enforcement officers were subject to the medieval hell for three hours, dripping in blood, surrounded by carnage.”
“Face to face with a crazed mob that believed the lies of the defeated President, the police were heroes that day. Donald Trump lacked the courage to act,” he said. “The brave women and men in blue all across this nation should never forget that. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-cop. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-America.”
Stunning to see a President making that statement about a former president.
That is going to leave a mark with the expected ranting and raving shortly, if not already.
That’s probably true, and I worked with him when he was VP on veterans issues, but I think for an impending DOJ case, someone might be telling him to hold the jibber until it’s ok to jabber.
Of course. I’m just having my little joke. He’s an old DC hand, and it’s a game he knows well. But another point: I think they try their best for the DOJ and the White House to stay out of each other’s business, as they ought to do in general. Whether they should in this particular moment is a matter of debate but they understand the general principles involved, unlike some defeated former administrations I could name.
Questioning The Former Guy’s manhood is a good slant for Biden to take even though the sheer audacity of the coup attempt and the ongoing struggle to complete its defeat will likely remain one of its more enduring historical characteristics.
