It’s almost certainly more likely that Biden wasn’t ‘trying’ to do anything, he just hadn’t gotten to Item #5735734783 on his list of ‘shit I need to unfuck’.
No, since he actually announced he was keeping trump’s limit. He got to that part and then 6 hours later was convinced of his mistake by most of the dems and backtracked to say he would raise the number in a few months. So in just one day he “got to it” twice.
This is such incomplete reporting on the part of TPM. Biden is reconsidering, in response to the blowback. But people are forgetting the destruction wrought by the Trump Administration to the refugee program, which was compounded by the worldwide Pandemic. Also, it seems as if Biden is pausing the increase in order to settle the thousands of undocumented children who have recently crossed the southern border.
We need to take a “wait and see” approach. Note that the screamers, like Tlaib etc., are screaming. Don’t be like them.
In fact, he didn’t. What he did was send his numbers to Congress last week, calling for 62,500. Then, yesterday, we got the Memorandum for the Secretary of State on the Emergency Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions for Fiscal Year 2021. That established the following numbers:
Which is what everyone got up in arms about. However, it also included this line:
In other words, ‘this is the bottom number, but as soon as we hit that, I can let more people in’.
Do you really think that’s the same as the Trump position? There’s basically 2 possible ways to read this:
I’m going to totally go back on my word on an immensely visible issue that will get picked up on worldwide, muahahahah! or…
Look, we’ve already told Congress this is expanding, so we’re just plugging the existing regional numbers in for now.
If the final determination hasn’t been made, and he’s already told Congress he’s shooting for 62,500 (which he did), which makes more sense? Which of those interpretations sounds more like Joe Biden?
Then ask yourself: which of those two interpretations gets more clicks?
And maybe follow that up with ‘Do I trust the AP and CNN to not put the clickbaity spin on this even if they know better?’ Because you know the Wall Street Journal will.
Really? So you just happened to put ‘whistle’ and ‘dog’ together without it being a clumsy attempt at accusing someone of dogwhistling?
And I suppose the GOP just happened to put voter restriction measures in place in Georgia that would primarily impact minorities without being at all racist, too, right?
Well it certainly upset the rest of the dems in Congress, so perhaps you should be writing them. And if he was so right, why did he backtrack in less than 6 hours? And why did he announce something so unpopular associated with trump when he had promised exactly the opposite during his campaign? Politically amateur move.
Now that we’ve beaten that subject to death, here’s a story on the latest crazy anti-masker. Notice she’s not wearing shoes either, and her shorts look more like underwear.
They’re politicians. They’re supposed to get all up in arms over total bullshit, that’s how they get re-elected.
He only backtracked if you’re really stupid enough to think that he’d revised his plans downward by over 40,000 people in under a week. Nor was that what was being announced. Read the rest of the damned memo instead of just sucking on the clickbait tit of the media. The actual announcement was about rebuilding the programs Trump destroyed.
Well, then I guess you’re stupid enough to safely ignore. Thanks!
More clickbait bullshit, and why should I give a fuck what her shorts look like?
