Biden To Keep Trump’s Historically Low Refugee Limit, Breaking Pledge To Lift Cap

Multiple outlets report that President Joe Biden will sign an emergency declaration on Friday preserving the Trump administration’s historically low 15,000 ceiling on the U.S. refugee program, a stunning reversal of the President’s promise to lift the annual cap.

This is wrong. Mr. President, you are better than this.

Refuges need homes, and America needs immigrants. It’s the right thing to do, and it is good for the country.

The only people who benefit from reduced acceptance of refugees are xenophobes and bigots, and the only benefit they get is the suffering of those they hate.

Cue the purity police to jump all over Biden for not delivering 100% of their wishlist on Day One, actually considering the whole picture and how to address things overall and being cautious.

The dispensary thanks you for your patronage.

Wow. This is a major reversal and certainly won’t play well in parts of the DP coalition in the Congress…

This is almost worse than the reports themselves!

This is wrong, if only because Rs will use it as proof that they were “right all along”.

OT: This is quite good news. Kash Patel was an unprincipled sycophant of Trump’s, formerly Nunes’s, who should have never received a security clearance.

Also quite good would be his “cooperating with investigators.”

There is no excuse for this. It is indefensible and evil. Don’t mock those of us fighting for the rights of others. I know it’s your schtick, but it is old and I am fucking tired of it.

Several will be offered up automatically, but none of them good.

I highly doubt that will happen. As Pentagon CoS, I have to wonder what he knew about, when he knew it, and what he did during the insurrection. And there’s this:

Mmmkay. So I guess we can leave the kids in cages while we bring other people in, since many of the same resources get involved in resettlement of folks and we have limited capacity to take care of everyone who needs or wants something when they need or want it.

That’s a funny definition of refugee.

Point being that when everyone is the top priority, nobody is. The programs may be different, but the resources and folks they depend on overlap.

Kash Patel served as chief of staff to the Acting United States Secretary of Defense.

He would have had access to EXTREMELY SENSITIVE information.
It makes you wonder what he leaked.
Is this a Rosenberg-level leak?
Time might tell.

Seems like a mistake that is going to haunt his administration later - and makes me wonder how its going to handle the requests for asylum certain to come in the wake of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Historically, the US has a history of leaving its allies on the ground to twist in the wind, and this isn’t an encouraging sign.

I don’t find that particularly meaningful.

We are once again in a situation where the same Very Experienced Politician is undone yet again by his own prior words.

And as we keep being reminded, it’s only five hours and three minutes into his presidency. The fun is just beginning.
