Didn’t kunsher fix all that? I could of sworn that was something he was put in charge of.
Why not? We’ve seen how “Trumpistan”, aka “Angry White Manistan” is like a foreign country. One that scorns laws, hates democracy, insists upon White Protestant Male Superiority, and clings to its overthrown dictator.
McDonough and his wife both have experience working with veterans and veterans’ groups.
I have spent 50 years working on VA issues from the Hill and from inside. The VA is a vast benefits agency with more than 1200 facilities. An excellent executive is what is needed. In some ways, a military career doesn’t necessarily fit because of the chain of command culture in the Services. I agree that it’s not a requirement, nor should it be.
In selecting Rice and McDonough, Biden is continuing to stockpile his administration with prominent members of the Obama administration.
Actually, he is stocking his administration with people with EXPERIENCE and EXPERTISE in the jobs he is tapping them for, as opposed to people who will Publicly Kiss his Ass upon Command.
I know that seems “odd” now, but that is how it SHOULD BE.
There is zero proof to support your diatribe.
You spend a hell of a lot of energy criticizing Democrats without ever offering any evidence to support your whining.
Just as they did in 2020 and with much the same effect. Note the facile reelection of Collins, Graham, McConnell, Tillis, Cornyn, etc. despite their miserable performances and the campaign ads writing themselves…
Evidently, it is now Very Surprising and Disappointing that an incoming president is filling positions with people who worked in the administration of the last president of his party.
I’m old enough to remember back when there was a lot of angst that with only one four year Democratic presidency in the preceding 24 years, there was a real dearth of experienced people to staff up up the Clinton Administration followed by criticism about how long it was taking him to fill all the open jobs.
The Obama experience as a negative bothers me for two reasons.
-
The outgoing administration is composed of people who either have no experience at all, or who have served every Republican since Nixon.
-
After an incumbent who tried to break every single aspect of the federal government, hiring department heads who know how things worked the last time the department was functional seems like a really good idea. Aside from Villisak and Murthy, has Biden appointed anyone to exactly the job they had under Obama? Susan Rice is getting a lateral transfer, but for the rest of them, I’m seeing a lot of deputy directors elevated to principal.
He probably should have picked McDonough’s wife.
If you lay even the tip of one kid-gloved finger on the wondrous Ms. Rice… (not that I’m crushing on her or anything like that.)
I don’t want to be the one sorting through the body parts before you re-assemble!
I was thinking more along the lines of photoshopping, and gif/meme making.
From what I have seen, the California EDD bent over backward to quickly get money to Californians who filed claims, so much so that there were many who did not deserve funding who got it. The decision to pay now and investigate later may have resulted in invalid claims being paid, but it undoubtedly sped up the process for those in need. From what I observed, everyone who I worked with to get them unemployment benefits got benefits and the only people who got nothing were the millions of self-employed Californians, and people who received a significant portion of their income from self-employment (like musicians, actors, and independent contractors), who were basically screwed and got minimal assistance when they were not denied outright.
My thought exactly. It would not surprise me to learn that Rice asked for this to burnish her own resume. Afterward I expect she will be the most qualified person to run any part of government.
I don’t doubt that Very Serious People are saying that.
But to be fair, some of the complaining comes from Democrats who joined Team Biden early on, whereas many Obama alumni waited to see which way the wind was blowing.
I would encourage the use of a two-handed cleaver for such large work. Something like a two-handed cleaver made by Friedrich Dick, called the “beefsplitter”. It weighs about 7.5 lbs and is 34 inches long, with a 16 inch blade. They’re used in slaughterhouses, or for cutting up large animals on a homestead during seasonal butchering. Of course, when the “zombie apocalypse” comes, you’ll be ready…
Damascus steel?
From what you saw… You asked me “Who is we…”
I told you. But,it appears you just want to dispute…Quite frankly what you saw…and what you know…are vastly different. I was neither self-employed or a Gig worker…but suddenly unemployed. ( How much do you know about the tens-of-thousands of California school employees who were suddenly unemployed but went through hell to qualify…because we typically are not eligible for UIB-per California law-except in limited cases?)
But…you can dispute every article, every legislative query from March 13, 2020 when the proverbial Shi@ hit the fan and millions of Californians began the long horror of navigating an antiquated EDD system that was already obsolete when it was revamped several years ago:
You can read the weekly articles from David Lightman- National Correspondent in the Sacramento Bee. You can read about Jim Patterson (not my favorite politician) pushing for a much-needed audit…You can finally read about the efforts that were finally implemented…only because of the pressure…You can also read about the sudden resignation (retirement ) of the EDD director-a 32 year employee who took off the entire year… So,quite frankly, I really am not impressed with WHAT YOU HEARD. Not sure what type of business you are involved: You state; “From what I observed, everyone who I worked with to get them unemployment benefits got benefits…”
In-the-mean-time, I was burning up two phones and a computer contacting Legislative Offices, ferreting through often byzantine legislation about, Disqualifications, Pending Actions; Non-monetary/monetary disqualifications… the EDD Appeals Board, various organizations and Union representatives…and helping individuals navigate the complexities of applying for aid…ONLINE when all of the EDD offices were closed and Libraries were closed… So-again, please tell me “From what you hear.”
From what I observed -not read about- because I actually helped multiple people apply for and get California unemployment benefits. People needed help because it was not one simple process (which it could not be because there were multiple different types of applicants who could qualify-W-2 employees, self-employed, and those who were mixed). I get that it should not require a lawyer to get UE benefits, but I had never done it before either, but by reading carefully and following each step meticulously, I was able to get benefits for multiple people. The problem that I observed -not read about- was that they seemed to have modified the system on the fly, in order to allow additional people (the partially self-employed) who would not have previously been entitled to benefits to obtain relief. It was an obviously cobbled together system, and initially a bit frustrating, but I understood why they had to make the changes that they did. But rather than getting angry, I read what was on the computer screen as opposed to what I imagined was there. Other than the Amharic speaker who I understand could not navigate the questions, I was frankly quite pissed that I had to waste my time doing what the applicants could have done themselves had they just slowed down and read the damn online instructions just like I did. So, yes, I get that you had a difficult time, and I understand that you may be facing a special set of circumstances (there are always unusual cases). Forgive me if I’m frustrated myself that the multiple applications that I assisted with could have been solved by the people themselves if they just took the time to read the actual instructions. But, I guess everyone can blame their reading deficiencies on the education system.
