Michael Cohen is a laugh. There’s every indication that Rump is losing his grip on the GQP, his mind and Q itself. They booed him for admitting he got a COVID booster. Rump was so despondent, O’Riley had to console him. I guess we will see if he has what it takes in 2024.
Michael Cohen has no small amount of credibility.
We can expect Tish James to have some influence here.
I think that’s a big part of it.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), for one, thinks history is on his side.
goddamn that brought a smile to my face
I think some of the MAGA cockroaches are heading for the cracks in the molding. Even lead roach Gym Jordan is acting like he sniffed some cypermethrin from a Raid bug spray blast.
I remember reading that Saddam Hussein had to thread a needle: convince his regional enemies that he had weapons of mass destruction while at the same time convince the US and the UN that he did not.
Trump needs to be running for President to keep the grift alive, preserve his power in the party, and sustain his defense to that any attack on him is a politically motivated persecution by the powers that be.
At the same time, the party needs another option besides a twice-impeached, blatantly corrupt, rejected failure to run in 2024.
Dunno. Seems like authoritarians have to spin a lot of plates.
“There’s a reason historically that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee,” Cruz said, noting that he “placed second” in the 2016 GOP primaries. “That’s been true going back to Nixon or Reagan, or McCain or Romney. That’s played out repeatedly.”
On what planet, is Cancun Cruz in the running. I know hope springs eternal, but I’ll be president before this guy.
The planet where the gop machine can make people hate the other candidate more than cruz.
I have a very hard time figuring out who finds Ted Cruz appealing–apart from Ted Cruz. If he had a cat, the cat would try to bury him in kitty litter every time he got near him.
When he chooses to be -which is not often- Joe Biden is a gifted troller.
“Yeah, he’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”
The cat would refuse to use the litter box if he found Ted in it.
Bingo. Biden is only in his first year, about to enter the second one. Announcing he won’t run in 2024 would reduce whatever political capital has left to get major programs enacted.
Of course it’s also a dilemma for VP Harris. If he’s going to pass the torch to her, it can’t be much later than the 2022 midterm election if she’s going to get a campaign in gear.
Personally, I hope Biden doesn’t run in 2024 unless Trump is running, because he may be the only one who could beat him (again). Biden is too old for a second term, and it’s time for fresh blood in the Dem party. Let’s give Harris, Buttigieg, or someone else a shot.
It is just adorable the way Teddy acts like Trump hasn’t irrevocably broken the Republican Party.
(Edited to fix my failure to make “has” “hasn’t” which is what I meant to type.)
You are so right. And, therein lies the problem for them, and why, with a bare handful of exceptions, they generally come to bad ends. It’s all fun and games until the one guy you didn’t see coming stamps your ticket.
Is Ted Cruz Really an Awful, Terrible Jerk?
A prominent aide to George W. Bush’s 2000 campaign could barely contain himself when we asked him to discuss Cruz, who worked in the campaign’s policy shop. This person described Cruz as hyper-arrogant and widely despised, and he emphasized—over and over—that the pervasive dislike of Cruz within the Bush ranks had nothing to do with ideology. (Cruz, he noted, never objected to Bush’s call for compassionate conservatism, immigration reform, and national education standards, and no one on the campaign regarded him as an ideologue.) The problem was simple: his personality.
“Ted thought he was an expert on everything,” says this campaign veteran, who asked not to be named. “He was a smart and talented guy, but completely taken with himself and his own ideas. He would offer up opinions on everything, even matters outside his portfolio. He was a policy guy, but he would push his ideas on campaign strategy. He would send memos on everything to everyone. He would come to meetings where he wasn’t invited—and wasn’t wanted.” In fact, this Bush alum recalls, “the quickest way for a meeting to end would be for Ted to come in. People would want out of that meeting. People wouldn’t go to a meeting if they knew he would be there. It was his inability to be part of the team. That’s exactly what he was: a big asshole.”
I don’t think either Harris nor Buttigieg could win. Like you I am really concerned about Biden’s age.
Run, Ted. Run!!!
