I am not disturbed by the reception that Biden is getting because I know that he was aware of what he would get.

I’m sure there are diners to interview customers in. That’s how you get the real pulse of America (during a pandemic when no one should actually be eating inside a restaurant, but who cares about that ‘selection bias’ junk).

Why in the heck would there have to be a single question or article about it?
Just searched the number of NYT hard-hitting articles on Trump’s wristwatches. Came up with a whopping zero (and his Patek Phillipe Golden Ellipse runs in the hundreds of thousands, even used).
But somehow it’s worth an article about Biden for a $7K watch just two days into his time in office.

Distracting from what? They say themselves it’s a benchline, “a floor, not a ceiling.” I think they’re aware that there are more than 100 million people in the country, and that vaccinating them as quickly as possible is a desirable thing.
