Biden Ends Public Show Of Negotiations With Capito | Talking Points Memo

Okay, now how much time is Biden willing to waste with Romney? Because we all know that “negotiating” with Republicans has become a waste of time. Where’s Bruce Willis (The Fifth Element) when you need him?

Josh is on Ari’s show right now.

They’ll be quite happy to do anything to stretch the process out, in all probability knowing that in the end they’ll vote against anything they negotiate, a la Obama.

No chance of charming them instead? Convincing them? Politicking? Buying with earmarked funds? You know, the good old fashioned ways?

"Sen. Capito issued a statement noting that she had negotiated “in good faith.”

Short version is “They won’t do what WE want.”

Sure. It was a show that grew out of good intentions. We will likely see more gestures of goodwill like this before these parades end. But damn! The dog and pony in the dog-and-pony show are already looking exhausted.

That is the time honored way and I think it will still work.

I think that and that Biden’s been around long enough to identify a deadender and step around. Biden wants this. Capito does not. Once she proved herself an obstacle he did what folks do that want something: clear the way and keep going. Romney’s painted coming from a point of better faith but I’m not counting on much coming from him. He’s another legacy politician that’s a formula GOP’er filling a media role of maverick like McCain did. Both hard core Republicans when you pull back the curtains.

These negotiations were always in bad faith even if some of the Republicans who tried actually believed they could make a better bill. Mitch had no intention whatsoever of meeting Joe somewhere in the middle. Never. Not sure what Joe’s powers are now but he needs to use them. American wants this.

Need we be reminded of Candidate Romney’ 47 percent remark?

For a mere, $50,000, you can dunk Trump PLUS the Republican Congressional leadership. America, we can do it… yes, we can!!!

Hell, Fortune 100 execs would be lined up around DuPont Circle : - )

Wasn’t Romney’s whole plan to be end user fees, IE: toll roads etc.

Not that I’ve ever seen an Amazon truck in traffic.

Exactly! How Republican is that? How scion’esque is that? How entitled is that? That remark was Romney’s perception of America in a nutshell. He holds most of it in contempt. That’s why I have no reason to believe he’ll be any different than Capito.

Not enough. Unless there are 9 Republicans in addition to Mitch, he can’t promise that any deal he negotiates will pass.

I’ve seen enough but I guess Joe manchin hasn’t

He doesn’t have a majority. He has to do the dance. Why is that so hard to understand?
