What is that old saying “Never negotiate with terrorists?”

The inverse is clear: there is nothing meaningful, absolutely nothing, that a Republican can offer that does not involve breaking ranks with the party; null program. Thanks Manchin.

Good. Biden showing he ain’t playing, and demonstrating to Sinema and Manchin that they’re living in a fantasy world.

Sen. Capito issued a statement noting that she had negotiated “in good faith.” The senator added that the failure of the talks “does not mean bipartisanship isn’t feasible.”

“Charlie, we promise we’ll have put the ball down in time for you to kick it, even though we are here on the 35-yard line and the ball is currently on our own 5-yard line. So please, start running. You won’t regret the follow-through. We promise.”

By which he means that all the Republican senators are on board with the reinstatement of Trump in August.

Republicans are being more than a bit stupid on this – playing Grinch to Biden’s Santa Claus. Manchin may want to make the GQP look good the rest of the Dems not so much.

Besides the infrastructure stuff is needed for itself and because it provides jobs worth having. Trump’s infrastructure week was a standing joke.

Biden’s initial infrastructure proposal offered $2.3 trillion in new money; the GOP counteroffer proposed $257 billion in new spending.

Thanks for continuing to make it clear that the Republican offer was not the $928 billion offer they claimed it was.

I would put it more as a loafing joke…

Massive infrastructure improvements are very popular. Rethugs refusal to cooperate will not be.

…[plagued] …by a basic impasse over Republican demands that Democrats provide detailed ways to pay for the legislation, so long as those ways not include tax increases or increased borrowing.

I know! Trump in a dunking booth : - )

And a different kind of fireworks.

Leaving Pennsylvania Avenue a torn, useless mess behind him.

Like he left the Capitol ; - )

If he had done that on 7/4/17 and left for Moscow, we would all have been much better off. So I would accept the damaged pavement, just add it to the infrastructure bill!

Meh. Manchin and Sinema must be broken or none of it matters. Romney’s “group” could propose $900B tomorrow and guarantee 10 GQP votes and Manchin and Sinema will still find a way to make it about themselves and say they’re not ready to vote for it. Guaranteed. All “getting to 10” would achieve is Phase 2: “now what can I get for myself like the Cornhusker Kickback?”
