Must be one of those ‘activist judges’ I keep hearing about.
You could say that.
But there’s also this:
Biden committed to fully ending land confiscations, a more aggressive stance than President Barack Obama took when he came into office after President George W. Bush had approved border fencing to be built in the Southwest.
“End. Stop. Done. Over. Not going to do it. Withdraw the lawsuits. We’re out. We’re not going to confiscate the land,” Biden told Garcia-Navarro.
(August, 2020.)
While this story bears watching, it’s early days, and between Covid, infrastructure, cops killing black people and other gun atrocities, Russia, China, Ukraine, getting his team approved by the Senate, among other issues, he’s been one busy guy. And Cornyn wonders why he’s not tweeting away or giving multiple daily interviews. But I digress.
Also, we can’t forget the border issue animates the Republican base like almost nothing else. It’s the jet fuel to their racism. As such, Biden needs a well thought out strategy and a long game so that we accomplish two things. Most importantly, do right morally and legally for all those crossing at the border, but also, to try to take it off the table (or at least minimize it) as an issue for Republicans to demagogue in 2022.
It may not be this simple, but an executive order to the DOJ “Suspend all pending eminent domain seizures at the southern border and do not initiate any new ones” doesn’t seem that complicated of a directive.
Lazy, provocative headline and lede.
Yes, they have not withdrawn from these cases (more than just the case discussed in the article).
They have not initiated any new ones.
These things take time if you want to do them right. They asked for that time, and the judge said no. So now they have to fix it. Politico is just looking for a dumb “broken promises” story, and TPM is rebroadcasting it.
True, and while all this is happening Biden allowed another mass shooting to occur, in Indianapolis.
Tucker Carlson will have all the details of Biden’s negligence, tonight, presented by Bob’s Gold Exchange and Adult Diaper Emporium.
Speaking of walls…
Nogales, Sonora, approaching the US side…

Nogales, Arizona from the US side… That rectangular building seen in the first image (DiConcini Port of Entry) is just out of frame on the left.
Not so many years ago I would visit Nogales for lunch and a stroll. Not now. Not the way trump changed things.
OK, how much time do you need to withdraw from cases you said in August you’d withdraw from?
Rough estimate?
So … sure, as long as they aren’t building more “wall” we can applaud – but surely you can also understand people’s feeling betrayed (as reported).
I’d say Joe needs to pick up the phone and speak to a few folks.
It’s a case of optics as was mentioned in another thread yesterday.
Certainly the family concerned feels betrayed.
Suddenly this will be Obama-level tyranny from the crowd that had no problem with this when their criminal idol was doing it.
I have no idea how long it takes to un-entangle the lawsuits from the shitty Trump policies and regulations they’re seeking to implement. And this Republican judge apparently doesn’t care, given that the feds asked to put the case on pause in light of the forthcoming policy changes, and she denied it.
We should vote Republican next time! I mean, at least Trump said he intended to be evil.
You would be surprised (perhaps) to realize many people along the border in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas deeply resent undocumented people crossing the border and actually favor the Republican approach, perceived as “strong”. Even though many are of Mexican descent, the general sentiment is we waited our turn, they should do the same. And the RGV broke relatively strongly for Trump and Republicans in 2020, though its long been considered a Democratic stronghold. We simply can’t lose the RGV if we have designs on winning state or national elections in Texas. I find most people in the RGV to be to the right of me on this issue, and I’m not of Mexican descent.
OK.
I just thought I’d ask.
And this Republican judge apparently doesn’t care, given that the feds asked to put the case on pause in light of the forthcoming policy changes, and she denied it.
Not defending the judge, or Anita Kumar (Politico), or @cristina_cabrera (TPM).
Can I add that we are approaching Biden’s first 100 days in office, we’re dealing with the after effects of Trump not continuing in record of peaceful transfer of power from one elected President to another, and that Schumer didn’t become majority leader until 01/20/21. Up until Biden was sworn in the only person Mitch allowed to be confirmed was Haines, DNI pre Biden’s swearing in.
Usually there is 4+ agency heads that get confirmed by the Senate before the new President is sworn into office.
So Joe has been playing catch up, Mitch had been/ is continuing to delay, and then there’s the COVID little problem.
“Insight into details”
Um. We’re talking about Pathetico. Why ruin click bait with relevant information?
I’m on my phone and not having luck finding it, but didn’t Biden try to pull back on some immigration issues and it turned out T****, the DOJ and Texas had some sort of agreement that Texas had to approve any changes?
And the RGV broke relatively strongly for Trump and Republicans in 2020, though its long been considered a Democratic stronghold.
If by “broke strongly for Trump” you mean he won, that is incorrect. What happened in the Valley, and much of the rest of the far-south/border region, is that Democrats turned out in about the same numbers as always, and in some places notablyt higher (esp. Cameron County), but Trump also prompted a bunch of new and low-propensity voters to turn out for him. A lot of those additional Trump voters didn’t bother to vote in the downballot races, so the rest of the ballot looked about the same as always.
It’s not replicable by anyone other than Trump.
