Harassment and abuse are always wrong. She’s still a horrible Congressperson who actively makes many people’s lives worse.
If we are talking republican women, it was probably an aspirin held between the knees.
It makes me think of the old saw that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged.
Lutheran here. It’s gratifying to see the rise in mainline denominations. I have often wished those denominations had not ceded so much public space to the evangelicals in the '80s and '90s and, in effect, let the Fundies become the first thing most people thought of when they heard/read “Christians” in the media. The mainliners in those days felt no motivation to be especially “political” in those days; they were content to preach and live out the gospel as best they could. But that’s boring, as far as the media are concerned. The Fundies figured out that making noise would get them in the papers: to coin a phrase, “If it bleats, it leads.” And that looked like power to the GOP, and “evangelicals” became the default setting for “Christian” in the public mind.
Perhaps that dynamic is changing. Meanwhile, speaking in particular for Lutherans, we mainliners need to work at being less white. These plot lines would look very different if they were tracking the affiliations of people of color.
He’s slowly turned into a great lump of flesh on two legs. When he drives over the bump, his amorphous torso jiggles like a bowl of jello in a mild earthquake.
Notice the caddy, a man of color, hangs on for dear life because orange won’t allow him to ride up front and maybe comingle thigh flesh.
I can’t believe she’s happy.
No argument there, but these people are effed up.
I’m thinking that the caddy is thinking, “they don’t pay me enough to sit next to this shit”.
How much do you want to bet that Manchin (Mansion) welches on this deal too. I’ll believe it when he casts his vote.
Someone posted this elsewhere and I will leave it here without comment.
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.” - Barry Goldwater
I am sure Trump told him there is plenty of room at the back of the cart.
I hope you’re right that this statistical evidence of a bounceback of mainline protestant denominations is evidence of something positive happening. But from what I’ve been reading, a growing number of “mainline” pastors are giving sermons that can’t be distinguished from those of the Christian right anymore. In some cases the pastors have themselves been radicalized; in other cases they know they will lose their FOX-watching flock if they don’t give them the red meat they demand. Meanwhile, liberal pastors are being driven out by their parishioners or are just giving up.
After they are on record for voting against birth control, there should be a list made of each nay voter and how many children they have. Married 20 years and only 2 children? Hmmmmm. Isn’t that special.
I am waiting to be blindsided by Simema. For all we know, they are tag- teaming this bill and it is her turn to sink it. her handlers say she
is “ reviewing “ it. Not good.
I can already see complaints about Democrats making this political.
The obvious response it, it is political.
I suspect it’s the same stuff everyone else uses. The point is hurting people who have less than you. Somehow, I never learned in Sunday school that Jesus said that. But they don’t care about what he said anyway.
So, you’re here clicking on the bait why, again…?
Hope springs eternal.
That was sarcasm, but seriously you are right.
