Yeah, I counted 4 mentions of God at the end of the speech and cringed every time. I’ll cut him some slack though; he’s from an era where things were different and likely doesn’t realize how much it grates on many of us.
Maybe a future President Kamala Harris will be the first to break that tradition. It sure as hell won’t be a Republican.

See, I think his mention of Gawd in a different light: he’s clearly pointing out the difference between their deity and most other folks’s deity. Since many of those assholes on J6 were carrying Jesus flags in addition to their guns, and like to claim their bona fides as True Christians, I think it was necessary to make the religious folk at home watching this to think about whether or not they’re comfortable with Joe’s version or the insurrectionist version.

If I were still teaching rhetorical analysis, I round love to work with this speech. Unfortunately, we haven’t been allowed to assign political speeches since Obama took office. Bush was fine; we were required to offer alternate assignments once the black guy took office. I’m sure that had absolutely nothing to do with the policy.
