He’s trying to redefine the traditional battlegrounds - to shift them from NH and Iowa to places like Mississippi and the chicken processing plants there. He is trying to push back against the normalization of Trump by refusing to accept this simply as a genteel battle of policies and to overtly designate Trump as the biggest threat to America.
He is trying to change the media focus and narrative to the detention camps and the processing plants where immigrants are rounded up rather than to the polite corn shucking at the Iowa fair. I would prefer him to win in the Senate, but I wish him all the best in this endeavour.
I guess Warren’s definitely on the move. But I found this breakdown really interesting.
Biden gets 47 percent of black Democrats, with 16 percent for Sanders, 8 percent for Warren and 1 percent for Harris;
Women Democrats go 31 percent for Biden, 24 percent for Warren, 10 percent for Sanders and 7 percent for Harris;
Very liberal Democrats go 40 percent for Warren, 20 percent for Sanders, 19 percent for Biden and 7 percent for Harris;
Somewhat liberal Democrats go 28 percent for Biden, 20 percent for Warren, 14 percent for Sanders and 10 percent for Harris;
Moderate/conservative Democrats go 43 percent for Biden, 11 percent for Warren, 9 percent for Sanders, and 4 percent each for Harris and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
That’s about what I expected. Black Democrats tend to be most conservative in the sense of being most pragmatic - they stick with whoever looks most likely to win. It took them a while to switch over to Obama in 2008. Warren (or anybody else) will have to crack them to beat Biden, which will probably require him showing that he would run a poor race against Trump.
Why do people think that Beto is still considering running for the Senate. If there was ever a moment for Beto to drop out, this would have been it. But Beto’s “man, I’m just born to be in it” remark to Vanity Fair suggests such a sense of entitlement that he will continue to milk his media cow until the very last drop of publicity can be had.
And I don’t really think that if he decided to run now that he would beat Cornyn. Texans would see him as an opportunist – someone who cares less about Texas than they do about their own national profile, who is only pursuing the job because he wants to run for President again in the future.
I’m with @georgeh on this – if you want to beat Cornyn, find the best Democrat running, and support him/her
Beto was unknown in most of Texas. And you know how he became known? He visited every one of Texas’s 254 counties during his campaign for Senate. Hegar could do the same thing…for starters. (but the fact that her website consists of little more than an appeal for contributions doesn’t make me confident that she can get the job done)>
Dudes and Dudettes! I can feel it!
There is no way I am running for the Senate!
When the presidency is where all the action is.
This is my calling! The world needs FREE nachos!
