And somewhere Byron Donalds is muttering to himself and wondering why they did not select him. Come on, Byron, think about it. You’ll get there eventually.
the Nice hitler. inclined to see the appeal that would have to certain people. these folks tried their munich and it didnt work.they put the horse before the cart. i am thinking this is one dangerous seed to sprout in these days…
Maybe this was their end game all along: stall and screw up the works until they got a radical conservative in the speaker’s chair.
(By “them,” I mean the MAGA Republicans - allies of Trump, Steve Bannon, et. al.)
If things get as bad as I’m worried they will under this guy, the only hope is that enough voters see it and get motivated to vote against Republicans.
The media? At this point reporters are nothing but fry cooks without the snappy paper hats.
All they have is government shutdown. Nothing else can get past the Senate and President’s veto. They can’t create any consensus legislation without triggering another call for ouster.
It’s going to be a long and destructive 52 weeks, and while I expect a Herculean effort to pin this all on the Dems, a steady diet of anti-abortion, anti-social security, anti-LGBTQ and impeach Joe Biden in place of meat and potatoes issues is probably not going to make those efforts particularly successful.
This is a big win for Democrats*. This guy’s views are unpopular af and nothing he wants will make it past the Senate and Prez - and won’t even make it out of the House unless every Republican votes for it. And every Republican that voted for him to be speaker is already tarred with embracing his extremist views. If they try to enact his agenda, any House Republican in a purple district is double-fucked in 2024. If they don’t, they’re RINOs. They keep digging their hole deeper and deeper. I’m inwardly cackling over here.
*Not trying to minimize the pain of a shutdown on actual peoples’ lives - just looking at the political calculus of it.
the genocide apologism on the front page of this site is beyond sickening
One might say, these picks are from the bottom of the barrel.
Humans are pattern-seeking by nature. We want to be able to find an explanation for why something happened that makes sense to us. We don’t like accepting the idea that sometimes stupid people do stupid things and it sometimes incidentally (apparently) works in their favor.
I think it could have as easily pushed a few vulnerable Reps, tired of getting shafted by the Gaetzes, to vote with the Dems for half a term, just to give Mattie the finger.
I think that’s for the judge to know and Trump to find out, if he continues this behavior.
This one is double the previous one; Engoron said from the bench that the next violation would result in a still more severe fine/penalty. Trump left angrily; he’s realizing (finally) that things he says have consequences and, moreover, that he is not in control of this process.
[like Mr. Rogers] Can you say “emasculation”? Sure–I knew you could.
You give them WAAAYYYYY too much credit.
Uh, he wouldn’t want his ‘faith’ in the same category as homosexuality.
You know, as something unnatural and destructive, that needs to be proscribed and changed.
Like, oh, bigotry.
Maybe the next time the judge hits Trump with a fine for shooting off his big mouth, it’ll be for $50,000.
It may go that high; but, at some point, the judge has to look at reasonable alternatives because fines aren’t stopping the behavior.
I’m pretty sure this was always the thought behind Freedum Kaukus’ bad faith agreement to elections: they would renege and not support the winner until the winner was one of their own.
That Steve Scalise didn’t make that cut says the folks they’ve always had in mind are pretty abysmal.
Nothing other than the Graybar hotel will stop his behavior. These penalties are chump change and are being paid for by his minions.
Fortunately for all of us, the reality Donnie experiences doesn’t often come in contact with the world where we live.
“you are neither. you are an errand boy sent by grocery clerks…”
That includes Don Bacon, too frequently labeled “moderate “ while being anti abortion, and voting lockstep with republican extremists. Yes, he did not vote to overthrow Biden’s election, because his district voted for Biden.
Let me know where you are waiting. I will bring sandwiches and beer. And maybe a sleeping bag with a pad. And a tent. and water. And a camp stove for coffee. And coffee. And morning pastries. And a porta-potty. And will develop a respite program with volunteers so you can see your family and shower at home and sleep in you own bed now and then. I am ready, man. Not saying I won’t give up because the journalists are too dumb and lazy to change, but I am committed for a not at all reasonable time.
