Another possible interpretation, equally corrupt but with an extra side of cowardice from tsf:
As in the article, Barr met with Shea, who agreed do to the defer-to-the-judge thing and stab his subordinates in the back. Barr reported to tsf that he had accomplished a lessening of the sentence. Then tsf started tweeting out the wazoo, knowing that the result was already guaranteed. Why: to magnify the impression of his publicly corrupt autocratic power. For Barr, it was an ETTD moment, but for everyone on the outside it was supposed to project just how closely tsf controlled law enforcement (see also the runup to january 6).

I’d like to see an IG report on all of Barr’s shenanigans with respect to the SDNY office (and regarding the “unindicted coconspirator in the Cohen case).

Sure - it might be worth kicking around for a bit & putting it up on a long stick and letting it hang in the village square … it was despicable - and clearly conveys the situational morals of the Trump regime
But … with the office of Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz having done a (Good Lord) a FOUR YEAR investigation - and basically the critique is - calling it a bunch of incompetence - while it may stink - A LOT … it does not seem like there is much to chew on - incompetence is not excusable - even if it is “Learning Curve” related …
But even if it is inexcusable - it does not look like there’s enough heinous stuff to make a real spectacle out of this - especially with such a lukewarm narrative provided by the office of Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz -

I had almost forgotten how quickly the daily corruption became standard operating procedure in the Trump administration (can we even call that clusterfuck an “administration”?). The shuffling zombies of Republican administrations past found new brains to consume with Trump.

It is a real shame the Senate Judiciary Committee (under Dick Durbin) and DOJ (under Merrick Garland, through the vehicle of a criminal Grand Jury) apparently do not have subpoena power, to force Barr and his underlings (and Trump himself for that matter) to testify under oath.

I don’t think his involvement is highly unusual at all. On the contrary, it’s de rigueur for him.
Bill disBarr has been covering for career criminals ever since he was admitted to the bar. He has never “practiced” law per se. He abets lawlessness, for which he’s needed no practice.
Fact is, he’s been the Hans Frank for every slimy Rethugliklan piece-of-shit since the Reagan era.

No, please reread my point - and do so from the perspective that I would absolutely want to run with this - it is rancid - - but for the next 103 days we have to be ruthlessly pragmatic - and triage actions based upon the strategic potential of each issue. Bluntly- as many punches as possible have to connect & have a payoff.
Yes - this investigation was a shit show - that it took four years - four freaking years! to wander through this ineptitude is beyond absurd. How you conclude that I am accepting any of this bullshit investigation as OK … is frankly odd.
But I will say again - 103 days & every battle has to be chosen wisely … this was a FUBAR that was both 7 years & 4 years on the making & the investigation blundering makes it a mess that won’t be untangled in the next 3 months.
Kick it around for the obvious disgusting ineptitude that it represents … but it isn’t worth spending any major “committee investigation” time right now… especially when it would require a fair amount of new investigation to uncover facts that would make bit possible to pursue a line of questioning.
