Attorney General Bill Barr on Monday defended the criminal probe into the origins of the 2016 Russian investigation — a probe that is under fire for appearing to be geared toward validating conspiracy theories — and said FBI Director Chris Wray has lent “outstanding” support to John Durham, the U.S. attorney ostensibly leading the ongoing investigation.
So the guy that neutered the Muller report by doing some dodgy media manipulation is now using the media to invent a smear campaign in preparation for the 2020 election.
How much more do you think we can take before we just give up? How long before the paid-for propaganda the rich and the born-again are pumping into Red states gets them fired up enough to re litigate the Alamo?
I believe this Fox News story has an intended audience of one–Donald J. Trump. After last night’s beat down at the NATS game, Barr and Fox and Friends no doubt thought the boss needed a little fluffing.
Fatman and his jowls should remember the old saying “if you are explaining you are losing.” They are trying to shore up the base with this latest crap show.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if the criminal complaint ends up being about Comey’s comments that helped Trump win, along with the NY FBI agents who were anti-Hillary?
I would not be surprised if this investigation drags out past the 2020 election, and then disappears (whether Trump wins or loses(. Barr and company have already shown they are completely willing to twist whatever arms it takes to get a public announcement of an investigation to hurt their rivals (see Ukraine), and this is a point where they can make up the investigation without going outside the DoJ. I’m not sure I’d trust the “by the book” reputation of Durham either, many other people with that reputation have been corrupted by working in the administration, so until we see actual results, with evidence, or any crime we must be skeptical that this is anything besides another propaganda stunt.
“Well, some of the countries that John Durham thought might have some information that would be helpful to the investigation wanted preliminarily to talk to me about the scope of the investigation, the nature of the investigation, and how I intended to handle confidential information, and so forth,” Barr told Fox News.
This does not jibe with quotes from the Italian official who met with Barr, who (as I remember) said the meeting was initiated by Barr and appeared to be a wild goose chase to which the Italians could add nothing.
Not that Barr’s veracity would be challenged on Faux’s Republican safe space.
A sitting Senator should insist Barr proffer a legal opinion on the President’s multiple statements that the United States is seizing oil from another nation.
“We’ve taken control of the oil in the Middle East, the oil that we’re talking about, the oil that everybody was worried about. We have the U.S. control of that,” Trump said, minutes after concluding a talk with the first two women astronauts to participate in an all-women spacewalk.
“We’re keeping the oil,” he added. “Remember that, I’ve always said that — keep the oil. We want to keep the oil, $45 million a month, keep the oil. We’ve secured the oil.”
What does Barr think of the President publicly boasting about breaking international law?
