Distraction!!!

All this racist stuff is a shiny object for the press. As long as the Trumpsters can keep the Sun and other media outlets focused on what a racist Trump is (non-news), he can keep them from doing their real job which would be to focus on the criminality, corruption and collusion with foreign powers. Being called a racist won’t keep him from getting elected, but all that other stuff, carefully documented and laid out, might.

So why is the South getting all that welfare?

Trump is a racist monster and would-be Great White Father.

In running against urban centers, Trump, whose family originally became wealthy building tax-supported housing in Brooklyn and Queens, is picking up an American political tradition of appealing to rural voters by depicting cities as centers of crime and disease. In the current context, in which America’s urban population is more racially diverse than most of its rural areas, the slogans have taken on an added dimension.

“He’s talking about cities and urban areas and using it as a proxy for minorities,” said Cornell Belcher, a Democratic pollster in Washington. “He’s pretending to be benevolent, but he’s locking in the stereotype that ‘these people need us to take care of them — those people can’t govern themselves.’ It’s this white savior idea — that is as fundamentally and historically racist as it comes in this country, the idea that people of color need to be saved by the white man.”

“We” can’t take credit for that. That was a pure own-goal helped along by some reporters deciding to google his claims.

Plus probably something really nasty in his closet that would have come out if the pressure and interest was still there to keep on digging.

OT…I appreciate the term “Moscow Mitch” (even if McConnell doesn’t )

McConnell is the anti-Trump: quiet, courtly (in HIS mind) and understated. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be quiet, courtly and understated if people call you “Moscow Mitch”…

(even if you grew up IN Moscow)

I guess that DOES it:

All 0.001%-ers gotta move out of the cities:

For work AND play…

It’s a good acronym though — Just Can’t Do Shit. I don’t know how to pronounce it though…lol

Please wake me up when Trump criticizes the economic, sociological, and criminal messes that make up white-trash Kentucky and therefore considers them the faults of Moscow Mitch.

Let. Us. Be. Absolutely. Clear. “All this racist stuff…” is more than a shiny object and a distraction for many people of any race or ethnic origin. The election may not turn on it but the health of American democracy and the society it governs are gravely affected by it, and we ignore the unpleasantness of having to confront racism at our own peril.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president and majority in both houses of Congress who care about the United States and all the people in it? (Except for people named Trump and McConnell - they could still dislike them)

That’s next week’s editorial. The paper has been given enough ammo to keep this going for months.

Also we’re going to need to send an exorcist in there.

And meanwhile, red states and rural areas suffer with opiate and crystal meth abuse, alcoholism, lack of jobs, gun “accidents”, environment issues, poor educational opportunities, lack of healthcare, and an increase in suicide rates. I say this certainly not to gloat -as Trump has done with urban areas - but to point out we all have problems on one level or another, and should work together and help each other. The fact remains blue states send significant dollars to red states. Dollars they could use for their own citizens. And if the situation were reversed, I’m convinced red states would do their all not to help the blue states.

I love their contrition over calling him a vermin a few days ago:

“As PETA chastised us this week, rats actually care about each other.”
